For the record: all my problems seem to be gone since I updated to the latest
HP BIOS release and removed the power-on password. This can be done by
changing the password and entering two empty fields for the new pass. That's a
bit simpler than what HP support suggested me to do to get rid of

I don't either have out-of-the-box desktop effects with my Radeon X800
in Ubuntu (window border disappear when enabling desktop effects, and no
effects actually appear), but I'm quite certain it's a not a problem in
xserver-xorg-video-ati, but in Ubuntu's compiz / desktop-effects /
something.

I've done some testing, it seems to be broken only if I have booted up
from cold without power. If I boot with power it its all good. If I
hibernate when its broken, plugin power in and resume, then its broken
until I unplug power, at which point it comes good.

I had a similar problem; a line or two of binary garbage printed at the
top of the page, followed by a relatively normal rest of the page.

Hmm... I'm a little surprised that nobody else is having trouble. After
all, Ubuntu switched to dash a little while back.
I supposed there would be a couple of ways to proceed. One is to simply
use /bin/bash, rather than /bin/sh. Of course this could be problematic
on machines that put bash
As a note this may still is happening in herd5 - alternate. An install
on root raid after initial reboot drops down to initramfs with the 'no
job control' error message. I fixed this by following the instructions
at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=2272436

Hi,
When I load up GAIM in fiesty herd 5, if an account is auto-login
enabled, it gets stuck on auto-login. I would have to disable the
account and re enable it in order for it to login.

I disagree with closing this bug. If an updated version of the driver
exists, with a kernel patch to fix it with 2.6.20, then these should
find their way into feisty ASAP.
