After the Compiz 0.3.6-1ubuntu11 update, I disabled the nvidia driver
with restricted-manager and rebooted before disabling Compiz, it just
loaded metacity when I logged back in.

Booting up from the live CD (7.04 actually) takes about 10 minutes on my Compaq
EVO N1020v laptop. I wonder if this is normal; the CD were seeking continously.

I downgraded this package to 0.6.8ubuntu3, the version it was on
4/3/07, and it didn't fix the problem, so the new version is not the
problem.

I tried to open a gimp file (xcf) from a smb shared directory (ntfs filesystem
on windows 200 pc), Gimp started and then pop up it didn't find the file.
Then I copied the file locally and loaded with Gimp still opened.
I modified it and then saved
