grub works OK off the CD, the splash comes up, but then drops out into
busybox during boot. '/sbin/modprobe' abnormal exit.

FYI. I have since changed my screen resolution to 1280x1024 but have not tried

The /etc/init.d/networking boot scripts hangs because ifup -a tries to start
many non-existing or not-connected network devices. For many setups/users this
script is not necessary at all, since network adapters are managed by
