How much time did you wait at the frozen state?
My experience is that it really freezes the machine for some time
when branking a CD-RW and at the fixating fase of burning a data
CD. But it unfreezes when the process finishes.

There is no mention in your references about the code change. The only
valid reference is the one given in comment #10 above, which concerns
the function:
alertpanel_error_log
which is used in sylpheed-claws and sylpheed-claws-gtk2
not the function:

I can can confirm this on Gutsy on a Lenovo 3000 N100 (which has been
upgraded). It seems also affect the right click menu on text (right
click -- Style -- Superscript/Subscript), as well as tool bar buttons
(but still works via Format -- Character... method) across all
OpenOffice.org

I tried the chkdsk /f thing again now and that seemed to have worked. I
no longer see the nasty error message in the screenshot. I suppose this
bug could be closed if the NTFS patch is already in Ubuntu.

I believe it is a change in Gutsy that means if you install XGL it will
be automatically started and is known to cause issues for people
upgrading who made their own tweaks to get XGL going (because it will
now be started twice). This probably means this bug is a duplicate of

I also encountered this bug. It is extremely annoying and difficult to
find the fix to it.
Besides delay when opening applications from the gnome menus/desktop, I
also had long delays when openning the midnight commander from terminal
or just the midnight commander editor (mcedit), some strange
Suspend/resume with ptyrb in the MODULES list (of /etc/default/acpi-
support) has no effect... KDE's suspend still resumes with a blank
screen.

And I can use 'switch user' and 'log out' which never worked using
fglrx.

Actually, I don't think it's entirely fixed. Some of the GL screensavers
preview for half a second and then freeze/disappear. They do the same
fullscreen too.
