I can reproduce this bug on an ATi card (Radeon Xpress 1100) using fglrx. Le mardi 23 octobre 2007 à 23:49 +, Lonnie a écrit : Suger, I'm not sure what you mean when you say: just substitute 15 to 14 in the version number used there Do you mean change 15 to 14? So what you did is you recompiled alsa so that Ubuntu is effectively using the previous version of alsa while tricking the update manager into thinking Ubuntu is using 15? Is that what you did? If, so, I suppose the new updates won't over write your compiled version of 14 (which externally seems to be 15) until 16 comes out. Am I way off here? No, I mean exactly the opposite : Ubuntu is using version 1.0.14 and you have to compile 1.0.15, which works, at least here. But the wiki article speaks of version 1.0.14, which is the reason of my quite unclear previous assertion. Download and compile 1.0.15. And yes, unless they bump the alsa version or someone patches 1.0.14 to work around the bug, you'll have to recompile at least alsa driver for every kernel update... -- No Sound from Speakers, but Headphones work https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/156013 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Changing accel to EXA doesn't help - in fact, when changing, X randomly on startup (1) acts identically to the previous setup, (2) hangs midway through bringing up the desktop after logging in. Two more points if they help: (1) When logging in from the greeting screen, the screen flashes black, and the cursor becomes the X cursor for a second before going back to an arrow cursor; (2) The main problem is that everything is very slow - screen repaints take forever, whiptail takes ~10 minutes to draw an opening splash screen on a maximized console window in X. -- [gutsy] Screen garbling on RC410 Radeon Xpress 200 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/150775 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 156550] Re: [gutsy] ati open source driver issues with external monitor
I have EXACTLY the same issue on a Dell C640. I attached this snapshot in another bug report. This is also a security issue because the screensaver (shown) does not cover the whole screen, even when locked, allowing access to files outside of the area that Ubuntu thinks is the full-screen area - i.e., the area delineated by the top and bottom panels in your photo, and by the screen saver in fullscreen preview mode in this photo. Some people are reporting that there is a blank window in movie players when playing videos. I also have that problem - the picture doesn't appear unless I drag the window OUTSIDE of the panels shown. If someone doesn't have an external monitor supporting a larger resolution, they would not even have that option. This is a serious problem and it occurred after upgrading from Feisty to Gutsy on my laptop. Interestingly, it does the same thing with both a clean install AND with running from the liveCD. I never had this screen geometry problem with Feisty. ** Attachment added: Screenshot-1.png http://launchpadlibrarian.net/10150093/Screenshot-1.png -- [gutsy] ati open source driver issues with external monitor https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/156550 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 155947] Re: ldap config causes Ubuntu to hang at a reboot
I have reported the duplicate of this at #156562: I have installed libnss-ldap and related packages in order to authenticate against LDAP server. During installation, I have been asked for server information, LDAP version etc. However, this information has been placed NOWHERE in /etc. It seems that Ubuntu simply drops the information! It dosent set up ANY needed configuration for LDAP auth! Strange, that there is /etc/ldap.conf both with /etc/ldap/ldap.conf (this one is not efective, all rows commented) Then I managed all the needed files manually: /etc/ldap/ldap.conf, /etc/ldap/ldapserver, /etc/pam.d/login, /etc/pam.d/common-account, /etc/nsswitch.conf and so on. I did it the way that has WORKED with Feisty Fawn and Debian Etch before. After reboot, system fails to boot. It stops on Starting kernel log daemon forever. It seems that using the keys to set the brightness leads to a temporary change of brightness. [Bug 139138] Re: [gutsy] flash plugin reported as installed when it actually failed
I am a newbie and have never replied on launchpad yet. But since I was able to fix this problem, I though I would add it in here. Since most newbies like me land up on this page looking for a solution, I thought it would be a good idea. Do let me know if this is not the place for such stuff, I would not do it again. Here is how I got flash working on my machine 1. aptitude remove flashplugin-nonfree This is to get rid of the previously installed plugin. It didn't show us any flash so we are going to be merciless with it. If it asks to get rid of ubuntu-restricted-extras, make sure you remove that too. 2. rm ~/.mozilla/plugins/*flash* This is to get rid of the local profiles of flash already present on the system. 3. wget -c http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/ flashplayer/current/install_flash_player_9_linux.tar.gz Now, we download the actual file from the macromedia site to install flash player. 4. tar -xvzf install_flash_player_9_linux.tar.gz Ok, now that we have the file, we need to unzip it, and add the files to the required folders. 5. sudo cp install_flash_player_9_linux/libflashplayer.so /usr/lib/firefox/plugins/ sudo cp install_flash_player_9_linux/flashplayer.xpt /usr/lib/firefox/plugins/ First, we copy these two files to the /usr/lib/firefox folders. Sometimes it starts working here, but if you're as unlucky as me it won't. Which is why we have a few more steps. 6. ps -aef | grep firefox This is where we check where firefox is really installed. If you see /usr/local/bin/firefox anywhere around, follow step 7, otherwise goto step 8 7. sudo cp flashplayer.xpt /usr/local/firefox/plugins/ sudo cp libflashplayer.so /usr/local/firefox/plugins/ Now we move the same files to the /usr/local/firefox folder, so that the flash files are available on that profile too. If it still doesn't work, don't worry, we still have one more trick up our sleeve. 8. mkdir ~/.mozilla/plugins/ Finally, the last trick, we create a completely local profile for flash. It won't be visible to other users on the machine. 9. cp flashplayer.xpt /root/.mozilla/plugins/ cp libflashplayer.so /root/.mozilla/plugins/ Finally, we add the files to your local profile. 11. close firefox and restart it Now we're all done. Open any flash enabled site, and watch the fireworks. -- [gutsy] flash plugin reported as installed when it actually failed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/139138 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 156576] Kubuntu wish: Save current display settings as...
Public bug reported: First some motivation: At work I have an extra monitor of type A connected to my laptop. This monitor has certain resolution characteristics, is placed to the *right* of the laptop, has adjusted gamma/brightness/contrast in a certain way and the display if functioning as an extended desktop. In the meeting room, I connect the projector to the laptop but this projector should just display a mirror of my primary display on the laptop - in a lower resolution, however. At home I have connected another monitor of type B, but this is placed to the *left* of the laptop with another configuration of gamma/brightness/contrast and with other resolution characteristics. The wish: I would like to be able to easily switch between each location specific display configuration without having to redo all the configuration work manually each time I switch location (which happens several times a day!). Solution suggestion: In the display configuration in System Settings, a save current config button could be added together with a text input widget allowing the user to save the current configuration together with a label (e.g. work, meeting room or home). The user should be able to restore a saved display config by simply selecting it from a dropdown menu showing all the saved display configs. It should, of course, be possible to adjust a saved configuration with updated parameter settings. Optimally, the dropdown menu should also be available as a desktop applet, allowing the user to switch display config directly, without having to visit System Settings - Display Config. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Kubuntu wish: Save current display settings as... https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/156576 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
