[Bug 156552] [gutsy] [apache2] mod_auth_pam missing file

2007-10-24 Thread Nephelauxetic
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libapache2-mod-auth-pam

after installation I cannont a2enmod auth_pam because the file
/etc/apache2/mods-available/auth_pam.load is missing.
I fixed it by copying the file from the feisty backup.

[Bug 149881] Re: HAL fails to initialise when /etc/init.d/rc sets CONCURRENCY=shell

2007-10-24 Thread jw5801
I can confirm the bug. After setting CONCURRENCY=shell, HAL attempts to
initialise before DBus, causing an error. HAL starts fine manually after
boot up, and changing it's starting level fixes the problem as Andrea
mentioned above.

[Bug 129910] Re: tty[1-6] are active but display nothing in Gutsy

2007-10-24 Thread jw5801
I can reproduce this bug on an ATi card (Radeon Xpress 1100) using
fglrx. I can also fix the bug by adding vesafb and fbcon to /etc
/initramfs-tools/modules, and commenting out the relevant lines in
/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-framebuffer. As a result of this the splash
image does not display correctly however (it appears to be at far too
low a resolution).

Re: [Bug 156013] Re: No Sound from Speakers, but Headphones work

Le mardi 23 octobre 2007 à 23:49 +, Lonnie a écrit :
 Suger,

I'm not sure what you mean when you say:

just substitute 15 to 14 in the version number used there

Do you mean change 15 to 14? So what you did is you recompiled alsa so
that Ubuntu is effectively using the previous version of alsa while
tricking the update manager into thinking Ubuntu is using 15? Is that
 what you did?

If, so, I suppose the new updates won't over write your compiled version
of 14 (which externally seems to be 15) until 16 comes out. Am I way off
 here?

No, I mean exactly the opposite : Ubuntu is using version 1.0.14 and you
have to compile 1.0.15, which works, at least here. But the wiki article
speaks of version 1.0.14, which is the reason of my quite unclear
previous assertion. Download and compile 1.0.15. And yes, unless they
bump the alsa version or someone patches 1.0.14 to work around the bug,
you'll have to recompile at least alsa driver for every kernel update...

[Bug 150775] Re: [gutsy] Screen garbling on RC410 Radeon Xpress 200

2007-10-24 Thread Haran
Changing accel to EXA doesn't help - in fact, when changing, X randomly on
startup (1) acts identically to the previous setup, (2) hangs midway through
bringing up the desktop after logging in.
Two more points if they help:
(1) When logging in from the greeting screen, the screen flashes black, and the
cursor becomes the X cursor for a second before going back to an arrow cursor;
(2) The main problem is that everything is very slow - screen repaints take
forever, whiptail takes ~10 minutes to draw an opening splash screen on a
maximized console window in X.

[Bug 156550] Re: [gutsy] ati open source driver issues with external monitor

2007-10-24 Thread david_ri
I have EXACTLY the same issue on a Dell C640. I attached this snapshot
in another bug report. This is also a security issue because the
screensaver (shown) does not cover the whole screen, even when locked,
allowing access to files outside of the area that Ubuntu thinks is the
full-screen area - i.e., the area delineated by the top and bottom
panels in your photo, and by the screen saver in fullscreen preview mode
in this photo. Some people are reporting that there is a blank window in
movie players when playing videos. I also have that problem - the
picture doesn't appear unless I drag the window OUTSIDE of the panels
shown. If someone doesn't have an external monitor supporting a larger
resolution, they would not even have that option. This is a serious
problem and it occurred after upgrading from Feisty to Gutsy on my
laptop. Interestingly, it does the same thing with both a clean install
AND with running from the liveCD. I never had this screen geometry
problem with Feisty.

[Bug 156556] Gimp brushes leave garbage pixel trails

2007-10-24 Thread Eric Seppanen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gimp

I just upgraded from Ubuntu 6.10 to 7.10, and now Gimp has a horrible
display artifact: every tool that uses a brush leaves bright green pixel
trails across the image. Though they go away when the window refreshes
(i.e. minimize and then restore the window), this makes Gimp essentially
unusable for me.

This is with gimp-2.4.0~rc3-1ubuntu7.

[Bug 154438] Re: Mouse-over pop-up labels disappear on upgrading to Gutsy.

2007-10-24 Thread Ivo Vegter
Yes, I did restart after upgrading, but no change.

What I also did was install the Mozilla version of Firefox 2.0.0.8, and
the problem is now solved. It also didn't happen with the Ubuntu version
of Firefox under Feisty, using the exact same set of extensions. So it
appears to be unrelated to any extensions, and limited to Ubuntu Firefox
2.0.0.6 (or 2.0.0.x) under Gutsy. Hope this helps.

[Bug 129910] Re: tty[1-6] are active but display nothing in Gutsy

2007-10-24 Thread gwi
I did a fresh install of Gutsy on my AMD/nVidia system. I can access tty1-6
now, but the font is huge. I am using the nvidia-glx-new restricted drivers,
which were installed via the Restricted Manager.
I will try to change the resolution to get a smaller font in the tty's, and see
if that causes the problem.
The fresh install did solve another problem: swat is working again (as it was
under Dapper and Edgy, but never under Feisty), and so is hddtemp (but that
also worked after the upgrade). So Gutsy has its good points ;-)

[Bug 156553] Re: Compiz whitelist/blacklist if edited by a user will/can be overridden with an update

2007-10-24 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
There are already two different places to change these default compiz
options: /etc/xdg/compiz/compiz-manager (or $XDG_CONFIG_DIRS/compiz
/compiz-manager, for system-wide) and ~/.config/compiz/compiz-manager
(or $XDG_CONFIG_HOME/compiz/compiz-manager, for per-user). You may
override any of the variables used in the compiz script from these
files, with the order of resolution being ~/.config, /etc, compiz
script.

The same occurs to me when I am installing Dapper Drake (6.06.1)on a HP

This happens after the syslog reports

partman: File descriptor 3 left open
partman: File descriptor 4 left open
partman: File descriptor 5 left open
partman: File descriptor 6 left open
partman: Reading all physical volumes. This may take a while.
partman: no volume groups found

and nothing goes futher.

SCSI-Controller is LSI Logic / Symbios Logic SAS 1064 PCI-X Fusion-MPT

I do need to set up server urgent, so I would like to set the importance
to high!

[Bug 156562] ldap not working with Gutsy

[Bug 156561] Enigmail does not cache passphrase anymore

2007-10-24 Thread Matej Kovačič
Public bug reported:

I just upgraded to Gutsy from Feisty and I am using Thunderbird 2.0.0.6
(20071022) with Enigmail version 0.95.0 (20070830).

When I go to OpenPGP - Preferences and select Basic settings and enter
Remember passphrase for 80 minutes of idle time, this has no effect.

When I go to GPG encrypted message for a first time, I have to enter
passphrase. Then I select another - unencrypted - message and then the
first (encrypted) message again. I am asked to enter passphrase again.

It is quire nasty to enter passphrase EACH time sou select GPG encrypted

[Bug 156564] CPU frequency isn't shown in Gnome (Ubuntu 7.10) on systems with powersave enabled processors

2007-10-24 Thread Robert Dzikowski

Binary package hint: gnome-applets

I have laptop with Intel Core 2 Duo processor. This processor has two
speeds: powersave - processor works at 50% of its maximum frequency and

installing Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy) I found out that Ubuntu starts in
balanced CPU mode - CPU works at 50% of its maximum frequency unless
more is needed, but nowhere this information is shown to the user.

Re: [Bug 152789] Re: Required driver megatec_usb not available

2007-10-24 Thread Arnaud Quette
Hi Luca,

thanks for this update.

Two side notes:
- I've added a blueprint for HH and the integrated UPS support:
https://blueprints.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/integrated-usb-ups-support
This is really the way forward in terms of desktop integration, and
user experience (the simplest way, and yet better than other
competitors...)

- nut 2.2.1 (bugfix) release is scheduled for soon (~ a month). The
deb update will follow shortly...

2007/10/23, Luca Falavigna [EMAIL PROTECTED]:
nut 2.2 will be imported shortly in Hardy.

[Bug 131338] Re: Gutsy brightness keys work but system automagically updates to full brightness set by applet

2007-10-24 Thread Russel Winder
It seems that using the keys to set the brightness leads to a temporary
change of brightness. There is some time out that then resets the
brightness to the level determined by the applet on the panel. I would
suggest this is an error not a feature. Is it deserving a new bug
number or does this one cover it?

[Bug 155501] Re: Resolution issue: default screen resolution impossible to get with ATI Radeon Xpress (regression)

2007-10-24 Thread viktor
Cleanly downgraded from an optimistic 8.40+ ATI driver to 8.37.6
No change. The best I can get is still 1280x1024, with proprietary fglrx
(activating the ATI restricted driver seems to help).
The windows Samsung .inf driver has been installed since PnP wasn't ok with
gutsy, yet the native 1400x1050 resolution doesn't appear in the 'Screen
Resolution' menu/screen reference, jumping from 1280 to 1600 (not supported)!
Forcing 1400 crashes X window.

[Bug 147551] Re: cups-pdf fails to generate file

2007-10-24 Thread stefangachter
Please, can anybody help. I delete Ubuntu 7.04 and installed 7.10 and
now I have exactly this problem. So, I followed the steps above.

My /etc/cups/cups-pdf.conf entry:

Out ${HOME}/Download

My /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.cupsd entries:

  @{HOME}/Download/ w,
  @{HOME}/Download/* w,

I restarted the whole system but I still get the error:

Wed Oct 24 07:01:45 2007 [ERROR] failed to set file mode for PDF file
(non fatal) (/home/stefangachter/Download/job_19-035.pdf)

Do I have to change something else? Did I do something wrong?

I cannot find any pdf file. Even with the standard configuration, no pdf
file is created. Under 7.04 it worked perfectly but now it is a total
mystery.

Please, can anybody help... why doesn't it work in my case?

Thanks a lot, Stefan

[Bug 139138] Re: [gutsy] flash plugin reported as installed when it actually failed

2007-10-24 Thread Sudhanshu
I am a newbie and have never replied on launchpad yet. But since I was
able to fix this problem, I though I would add it in here. Since most
newbies like me land up on this page looking for a solution, I thought
it would be a good idea. Do let me know if this is not the place for
such stuff, I would not do it again.

Here is how I got flash working on my machine
1. aptitude remove flashplugin-nonfree
This is to get rid of the previously installed plugin. It didn't show us
any flash so we are going to be merciless with it. If it asks to get rid of
ubuntu-restricted-extras, make sure you remove that too.
2. rm ~/.mozilla/plugins/*flash*
This is to get rid of the local profiles of flash already present on the
system.
3. wget -c http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/
flashplayer/current/install_flash_player_9_linux.tar.gz
Now, we download the actual file from the macromedia site to install flash
player.
4. tar -xvzf install_flash_player_9_linux.tar.gz
Ok, now that we have the file, we need to unzip it, and add the files to
the required folders.
5. sudo cp install_flash_player_9_linux/libflashplayer.so
/usr/lib/firefox/plugins/
sudo cp install_flash_player_9_linux/flashplayer.xpt /usr/lib/firefox/plugins/
First, we copy these two files to the /usr/lib/firefox folders. Sometimes
it starts working here, but if you're as unlucky as me it won't. Which is why
we have a few more steps.
6. ps -aef | grep firefox
This is where we check where firefox is really installed. If you see
/usr/local/bin/firefox anywhere around, follow step 7, otherwise goto step 8
7. sudo cp flashplayer.xpt /usr/local/firefox/plugins/
sudo cp libflashplayer.so /usr/local/firefox/plugins/
Now we move the same files to the /usr/local/firefox folder, so that the
flash files are available on that profile too. If it still doesn't work, don't
worry, we still have one more trick up our sleeve.
8. mkdir ~/.mozilla/plugins/
Finally, the last trick, we create a completely local profile for flash. It
won't be visible to other users on the machine.
9. cp flashplayer.xpt /root/.mozilla/plugins/
cp libflashplayer.so /root/.mozilla/plugins/
Finally, we add the files to your local profile.
11. close firefox and restart it
Now we're all done. Open any flash enabled site, and watch the fireworks.

[Bug 156574] wish: allow different data sources for clock calendar applet

2007-10-24 Thread Diego Gaustein
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Hi. Though I think the integration between Evolution and the
clock/calendar applet is great, I would like to be able to choose which
application it integrates to. My calendar application of choice is
Mozilla Sunbird, and I would really like to see my events there, and I'm
sure other people would enjoy the freedom of choice (like the 'Send to'
context menu allows using both Evolution and Thunderbird).

Thanks!

[Bug 156577] adept updated 7.10 to 7.10 and got error

2007-10-24 Thread xassin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: update-manager

I saw the icon by the clock that some programs had updates available. I
let adept run and update those programs and when it was done it said I
could update the system to 7.10 (I'm already running 7.10). So I let it
try to update the system but after downloading some files it reported an

[Bug 156576] Kubuntu wish: Save current display settings as...

2007-10-24 Thread tmp
Public bug reported:

First some motivation:
At work I have an extra monitor of type A connected to my laptop. This monitor
has certain resolution characteristics, is placed to the *right* of the laptop,
has adjusted gamma/brightness/contrast in a certain way and the display if
functioning as an extended desktop.
In the meeting room, I connect the projector to the laptop but this projector
should just display a mirror of my primary display on the laptop - in a lower
resolution, however.
At home I have connected another monitor of type B, but this is placed to the
*left* of the laptop with another configuration of gamma/brightness/contrast
and with other resolution characteristics.

The wish:
I would like to be able to easily switch between each location specific display
configuration without having to redo all the configuration work manually each
time I switch location (which happens several times a day!).

Solution suggestion:
In the display configuration in System Settings, a save current config button
could be added together with a text input widget allowing the user to save the
current configuration together with a label (e.g. work, meeting room or
home).
The user should be able to restore a saved display config by simply selecting
it from a dropdown menu showing all the saved display configs.

It should, of course, be possible to adjust a saved configuration with
updated parameter settings.

Optimally, the dropdown menu should also be available as a desktop
applet, allowing the user to switch display config directly, without
having to visit System Settings - Display Config.

[Bug 147551] Re: cups-pdf fails to generate file

2007-10-24 Thread stefangachter
Sorry for my pleading... in a final attempt, I restarted my system
again. Restarting the services seems not to be enough. And now it works.
BUT, only if I do a printout from an application. If I use the Print
Test Page button, in the printer configuration, nothing happens. I had
this problem in 7.04 already. The Print Test Page button did and does
not work properly, because it does not consider the current CUPS
configuration! Is this kind of a joke?

Thank you for your report!

This is not a bug.

You should type your password carefully, also you should mention the
active keyboard layout (if using more then one layout). Upgrade process
may take a long time dependently on your internet connection bandwith
and hardware, and disturbing it will lead to problems.
