Removing seahorse does help a bit, but does not correct the problem
completely. Some processes keep running. And some actually freak out
with 100% CPU consumption.
This is just ridiculous.
I am stuck with EDGY for that very reason. I simply can't afford such a
bug in an LTSP enabled network. I

This is probably caused by dynamic clock change aka Cool'n Quiet (on AMD
processors). If the processor hasn't got much to do, the kernel will
clock it down in order to save energy. Try to run some CPU-intensive
task and meanwhile check /proc/cpuinfo again: it should report the
expected cpu MHZ.
I have the same issue, only with gutsy, on multiple computers (mainly
DELLs but also an HP), all with an intel sound card (snd_hda_intel
module) ...
Trying to describe the problem in other words: Sliding the volume bar from,

HP Landscape must be manual and part of image is missing

Whenever I play any video on Totem in Ubuntu 7.10 x64, a major memory
leak occurs that does not recover even after the application is closed,
the OS has to be restarted in order to return the memory usage back to
normal.
