No lockups since yesterday. It seems that NVIDIA- Linux-x86-169.04-pkg1.run is solving this issue. As for what Alvarez asked, I'm afraid you'll have to manual install. Its mostly the case of tracker not exiting cleanly which is now fixed in svn and soon to be released 0.6.4 version in svn we know check for corruption and inconsistencies in the db and index on startup if it was not previously shut down cleanly. Re: [Bug 147464] Re: Heavy network activity (eg: torrent/nfs file transfers) causes Hard System Locks and/or Network Freezes.
Fascinating. So these kernel freezes are actually caused by the kernel entering an infinite loop? We should also check with other distros to see if the problem occurs with them. I know that none of the Ubuntu users I know personally seem to have the problem though. Including me. thechef wrote: I had a full system freeze (can't use mouse, keys, no network response / pong) on 2.6.23 and 2.6.22.10 when I was transferring data. The freeze only occured after a few days of runtime and only when transferring data. Not sure if it was always from or to NFS drives, but there were always NFS drives mounted. The last time it crashed was when I was transferring about 70 GB over the network from an NFS drive to another NFS drive. As I really have difficulty to reproduce this problem I ask if anyone has a system on which it is easier to reproduce this(assuming that there is only one error) problem. Can you test the newest kernel versions? =2.6.23.8 Is it possible that an error such as this, can cause the problem? It's just the one that looks most likely related, but I don't know what happens to a infinite loop under the big kernel lock and how probable it is, under the known conditions, that the kernel enters this infinite loop. (I'm not a kernel programmer after all) http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-2.6.23.y.git;a=commit;h=97855b49b6bac0bd25f16b017883634d13591d00 -- Heavy network activity (eg: torrent/nfs file transfers) causes Hard System Locks and/or Network Freezes. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/147464 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 107320] Re: Large font in the GDM login text field after installing xserver-xorg-video-intel which report monitor having 289x21 millimiters
Matthew Nuzum schreef: The Option DDC no workaround fixes the problem for me, but I'm curious if anyone can explain what this does? (quote from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Display_Data_Channel) The Display Data Channel or DDC is a digital connection between a computer display and a graphics adapter that allows the display to communicate its specifications to the adapter. The standard was created by the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA). What in my opinion happens is that either: - your monitor reports the wrong physical dimensions - your graphics driver doens't interpret the DDC information correctly. My guess it is the latter happens as switching to another driver also fixes the problem for me (i810, although I think that driver has no 3D hardware capabilities). But maybe the i810 driver is simply incapable of reading DDC and therefor the error doesn't occur (ergo: it's your monitor hardware's fault)? Anyway, by telling xorg not to use the DDC information it probably assumes some default dimensions of your hardware which are more accurate than what DDC reports. //puccha BTW: This workaround not only fixed problems with the login screen, gdm for me but also: mythtv (video and live tv where squized) compiz-fusion (would boot up with HUGE titlebars) teamspeak (menu scaling was incorrect to the point it was unuseable.) -- Large font in the GDM login text field after installing xserver-xorg-video-intel which report monitor having 289x21 millimiters https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/107320 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 129920] Re: /var/lock/apache2 has wrong owner and group for webdav
** Description changed: Binary package hint: apache2.2-common I'm running apache2.2 (package apache2.2-common 2.2.3-3.2build1) as a webdav server on feisty (amd64). According to the apache documentation, http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/mod/mod_dav_fs.html, the directory containing the lock database must be readable and writable for the user and group under which apache is running, i.e. www-data. The lock database is by default set to DAVLockDB /var/lock/apache2/DAVLock in /etc/apache2/mods-available/dav_fs.conf $ mount | grep lock varlock on /var/lock type tmpfs (rw,noexec,nosuid,nodev,mode=1777) This is am ramdisk, right? So /var/lock/apache2 is created at every time the machine boots by /etc/init.d/apache2, the owner and group are set to root. line 97:[ -d /var/lock/apache2 ] || mkdir -p /var/lock/apache2 This ownership prevents apache from accessing the lock database, write access to the dav enabled folders is impossible. I have changed the line above in /etc/init.d/apache2 to 97:[ -d /var/lock/apache2 ] || { mkdir -p /var/lock/apache2; chown www-data:www-data /var/lock/apache2; } Is it a good idea to fix it like this? I have an Asus A7T as well, with ath ALC882 audio codec. I was able to fix my sound issue using the alsa-base package installed by default (version 1.0.14-1ubuntu2 at the time of this writing). [Bug 88918] Re: Request: sync new agpgart drm modules for 50% DRI performance boost with Intel users
Leann, Thanks for reassigning this bug. Having updated to the Hardy development release and custom compiling the requisite drm modules, it seems things things are working fine. I noticed some interesting developments recently; as of version 2.2.0, the intel driver will default to EXA acceleration (which uses the new TTM memory manager, part of the new DRM kernel code) and it seems this new driver no longer differentiates between i915.dri and i915_tex.dri DRI modules, obsoleting the Legacy3D option. This means it's more important than ever to have up-to-date DRI functionality for Hardy's release, as running with older DRM kernel modules and libraries results in EXA being in a reduced-performance compatibility mode, as warned in Xorg.0.log. As for Gutsy, I'm aware it's too late to have this implemented, thanks. We should push this for consideration in linux-source-2.6.24, to be included with Hardy. -- Request: sync new agpgart drm modules for 50% DRI performance boost with Intel users https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/88918 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 138256] Re: xserver-xorg-video-intel hangs the system when laptop lid is closed
I'm getting something which may be related. 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82852/855GM Integrated Graphics Device (rev 02) 00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation 82852/855GM Integrated Graphics Device (rev 02) On resume (from suspend) I got X back, but the screen wouldn't refresh properly. As I opened windows/menus they would sort of display, but not be removed from the screen when closed. Everything else appeared to be working. After much browsing and fiddling (no records kept, I'm afraid) I came to this fix: Add SAVE_VIDEO_PCI_STATE=true to /etc/default/acpi-support Modify /etc/acpi/suspend.d/80-video-pci-state.sh according to attached diff, to save state from /sys/bus/pci/devices/:00:02.1 (as well as 02.0).
