[Bug 184545] Re: [Merge] debhelper (6.0.3ubuntu1)
This bug was fixed in the package debhelper - 6.0.4ubuntu1 --- debhelper (6.0.4ubuntu1) hardy; urgency=low * Merge with Debian unstable (LP: #184545). Remaining changes: - autoscripts/postinst-scrollkeeper: Do not show scrollkeeper-update output. - dh_installudev: Use priority 50 by default (instead of z60) and '-' separator (instead of '_'). - dh_installxfonts: Use versioned dependency for xfonts-utils. This should be kept until dapper goes out of support, to avoid broken dapper backports. - dh_python: Add 2.5 as supported Python version. dh_python is generally deprecated in favor of dh_py{central,support}, but universe might still have some unconverted packages. This should be dropped at some point, though. debhelper (6.0.4) unstable; urgency=low * dh_strip: Improve the idempotency fix put in for #380314. * dh_strip: The -k flag didn't work (--keep did). Fix. * dh_shlibdeps: Add emul to exclude list. debhelper (6.0.3) unstable; urgency=low * dh_link: -X can be used to avoid it modifying symlinks to be compliant with policy. Closes: #461392 * dh_shlibdeps: Rather than skipping everything in /usr/lib/debug, which can include debug libraries that dpkg-shlibdeps should look at, only skip the subdirectories of it that contain separate debugging symbols. (Hardcoding the names of those directories is not the best implementation, but it will do for now.) Closes: #461339 debhelper (6.0.2) unstable; urgency=low * Revert slightly broken refactoring of some exclude code. Closes: #460340, #460351 debhelper (6.0.1) unstable; urgency=low * dh_installdocs/examples: Don't unnecessarily use the exclude code path. * dh_install{,docs,examples}: Avoid infinite recursion when told to install a directory ending with /. (slashdot effect?) when exclusion is enabled. Emulate the behavior of cp in this case. Closes: #253234 * dh_install: Fix #459426 here too. debhelper (6.0.0) unstable; urgency=low * dh_gencontrol: Stop passing -isp, it's the default now. Closes: #458114 * dh_shlibdeps: Update documentation for -L and -l. dpkg-shlibdeps is now much smarter, and these options are almost never needed. Closes: #459226 * dh_shlibdeps: If a relative path is specified in -l, don't prepend the pwd to it, instead just prepend a slash to make it absolute. dpkg-shlibdeps has changed how it used LD_LIBRARY_PATH, so making it point into the package build directory won't work. * dh_shlibdeps: Change -L pkg to cause -Sdebian/pkg to be passed to dpkg-shlibdeps. The old behavior of passing -L to dpkg-shlibdeps didn't affect where it looked for symbols files. Closes: #459224 * Depend on dpkg-dev 1.14.15, the first to support dpkg-shlibdeps -S. * dh_installdocs, dh_installexamples: Support files with spaces in exclude mode. Closes: #459426 * debhelper v6 mode is finalised and is the new recommended compatibility level. debhelper (5.0.63) unstable; urgency=low * dh_installdocs: Tighten doc-base document id parsing to only accept the characters that the doc-base manual allows in the id. [Bug 129910] Re: Blank ttys when using vesafb (vga=xxx)
I did not realize this was a bug. I always had my virtual consoles at VGA quality, not realizing that higher resolutions were possible, until I experimented with different distros. When I started messing with vga=XXX I got the blank screens. The process below, similar to others, gets 1024x768 in the virtual consoles, though I get the native 1440x900 when running X. edited /etc/initramfs-tools/modules to include: fbcon vesafb commenting in blacklist file, /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-framebuffer as such: # blacklist vesafb followed by sudo update-initramfs -u -k all -v and then edit /boot/grub/menu.lst, using boot option: vga=0x0318 For the boot option above, I chose the best vga mode from output of hwinfo --framebuffer (had to apt-get), which was 1024x768. I've nvidia Geforce 6150 Go, which gives 1440x900 in the GUI, so I will try the nvidia fb modules next. -- Blank ttys when using vesafb (vga=xxx) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/129910 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 186540] [NEW] NVidia and Intel wireless driver should have separate restricted-* packages
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: linux-restricted-modules-2.6.22-14-generic The restricted Nvidia driver coming with 7.10 does not work with my Laptop's Nvidia chip (Lenovo T61, VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation Quadro NVS 140M (rev a1)). I therefore installed the driver from Nvidia's homepage which works smoothly. However, I also need the restricted wireless driver for my Intel 3945 chipset which also comes with the same package. I therefore installed it and overwrote my manually installed Nvidia driver. A perfect solution for this would be the separation of both (unrelated) modules into separate restricted packages (which might for usability reasons be incorporated into a restricted-drivers metapackage). ** Affects: linux-restricted-modules-2.6.22 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- NVidia and Intel wireless driver should have separate restricted-* packages https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/186540 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Sebastian Gaul : I made some tests and it seems that the applet read its informations during the starting of gdm... 1- Firstly you will have to update your fdi file : sudo gedit /usr/share/hal/fdi/policy/10osvendor/10-sony-laptop-panel-mgmt-policy.fdi change all the 20 into 21, then save : 2- restart hal : sudo /etc/init.d/hal restart 3- restart your gdm (Ctrl + Alt + backspace), and enjoy (NB: you can just reboot you computer to automatically restart hal and gdm) -- LCD brightness setting doesn't work with Sony Vaio VGN-S5M https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/77739 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 178194] Re: [needs-packaging] wxDownload Fast
This program is one of the few (I've been able to find) that makes scheduled downloading easy. It fills a real need, and the existing deb files available for it either fail to load properly (from getdeb) or cause segmentation faults (from wxdownload site). While it is acceptable because of common usage, the term Video card is similar to a Video capture card, which is present and documented on Wikipedia, if you select Wikipedia for your reference. If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit. If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using /usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. On Wed, 23 Jan 2008 18:12:16 - Noel J. Bergman wrote: Ubuntu is trying to deliver linux to a larger population of users. A typical problem throughout the Open Source world is recognizing and coping with a transition from a small population of computer-skilled participants able to dig for information to a larger unskilled population that expects everything to just work. No one outside of the cognoscenti is going to go digging under /usr/share/doc, unless explicitly told to look there. Hum, should we remove /u/s/doc then ;) Nor should most users look there, given the nature of the material generally present (changelogs, TODO files, copyright notices). At best, we'll train users to read man pages. In any event, don't worry about removing the package. If you add a hint to that file on startup, and to the package description, that should indicate to most users that the feature won't be present, and point the rare few (a tiny fraction of a percent) who can handle the patch to what they have to do. And we can hope that someday either the kernel support will be mainline, or the daemon won't need it. I think adding a hint to the init script only should be enough. IMHO hdaps is something advanced even when the kernel would have the UNLOAD support, as the vanilla kernel has many problems with newer hdaps chips (this is solved by tp-smapi (not in Ubuntu)) and thus hdapsd might not work correctly sometimes. Re: [Bug 160409] Re: Please apply upstream OpenVZ patch for Upstart issue
Kir Kolyshkin [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: Fixing bug #183774 should also fix this one. So it might make sense to make this bug a duplicate of the bug #183774. Not sure how to do in launchpad though :( Unfortunately, syncing the latest version of vzctl 3.0.22 from Debian will not fix old vzctl 3.0.16 package for Gutsy. It's still unusable for Ubuntu OpenVZ HN with Ubuntu OpenVZ VEs. I think that Ubuntu should build fixed vzctl package for Gutsy as backport, because it seems that your patch is not a security issue. Gutsy is still an official stable release of Ubuntu and they will release Hardy for a few months. Of course, in my opinion Hardy should include the latest vzctl tool, it means version 3.0.22 or newer. -- Please apply upstream OpenVZ patch for Upstart issue https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/160409 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 185779] Re: nautilus segfaults on startup
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these instuctions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. The origin of this file was initially unclear but I managed to reproduce this file as follows: - as a normal user open nautilus and go to /root - select some files (not directories) for which the user has reading rights (rw-r--r--) - right click to create an archive in the same directory Trying to create an archive in the directory where the user doesn't have writing rights will fail without an error message. Here's the problem: Without any notification, a tarball named -- (without extension), which includes the root-owned files, is now placed in the home directory of the user who attempted to create the archive in the root directory. Any new attempt will append files to this archive. File-roller shouldn't create an archive in any other location than the one specified by the user. ** Affects: file-roller (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Visibility changed to: Public -- [Gutsy] attempt to create archive in dir without writing permissions creates archive in user home without notification https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/186583 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 181561] Re: Hardy alpha 3 daily-live i386 dont't boot
I recently upgraded my ibook G4 (ppc) to hardy and the upgrade was somehow borked. I don't know what happened exactly. I see usplash for long time and then get a shell (ash). So I decided to do a reinstall. I used ppc nightly 'Alternate CD' of date 26th. It also has this issue. So certainly this is not specific to Live CD. Please note that I have not tested any Live CD. -- Hardy alpha 3 daily-live i386 dont't boot https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/181561 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
