I was experimenting with hdparm , and i found that there is a sleep mode and a standby mode- which parks the read heads. So I issued the sleep command in idle , and after a while , the temperature of the HDD went down from 51 to 49 degrees. So I was wondering , may be that , whatever is issuing the commands to the hard disk has these two modes mixed up.So if it were possible to put the hard disk to sleep instead of standby , I think most of our problems will be solved.
