Public bug reported: This reapeats for some long time. In Polish language in KDE username is translated as "Nazwa użytkownika" which is a much longer string than 'username'. This causes breaking the layout of kdm login screen in default kubuntu theme. Public bug reported: i just install prism-google-calendar prism-google-groups prism-google- mail and prism-google-docs on my testing computer running ubuntu 8.04 alpha6. the problem is that prism don't remember the size of the windows. I change the size because it's better for the used web application and work some time with it. then i close it and. when i start it the next time i get the same small window like at the first start again (see also the attachment) and have to resize it again. Hi Pedro, I just had the same problem with the disappearing windows on a new installation of Ubuntu 7.10 I was able to resolve the problem by disabling and then re-enabling the restricted drivers for Nvidia. After rebooting, the window borders were back. Retested with Hardy Alpha 6 with latest updates as of 2008-MAR-09 (kernel 2.6.24-12-generic). Same result. The fan was functioning during the Alternate i386 installation but not after the reboot. I presume that the installer disables ACPI and APM then takes over the fan operation. With ACPI active the CPU throttles down to 600MHz as the temperature approaches 60°. Can I install this directly (I got sound working in gutsy by install an earlier kernel as descibed above). Now that I'm experimenting with Hardy, I have no sound again. AZ, I installed it but I'm afraid it did the same thing as the old version. When I target the window boarder, the app (Evolution in this case but I also tried just a Nautilus file window) goes away and a weird icon shows up in the menu bar (never seen it before, looks like a generic app window). When I left click on the icon nothing happens, and when I right click and select close it goes away, shutting down the app and disabling compiz (something I noticed before). I have to go back to the Appearance applet to turn effects back on. If I try to boot up with the startup script as suggested on the older version of Alltray, the app never starts - you can't tell it is even set to start. For now I've reinstalled the stock Gutsy version and disabled effects. Having Evolution in the tray all the time is more important to me than the effects, though I would like to have a choice. Alltray is one of those apps that is not big and bold, but you really get used to having it around ;) I'll be happy to try another version, or try to debug if you tell me what you need. Now i8k values show up in sensors-applet for both fans, but either i8k reports them incorrectly or sensors-applet interprets them incorrectly, because it says my fans are going at more than 200,000 RPM. [Bug 200445] [NEW] Laptops with Nvidia Go440 chipsets do not initialise the laptops own flat panel when booting
Public bug reported: Specific case - Dell 8200 Laptop This laptop and others which use the built in Nvidia GO440 chipset do not correctly choose the laptops own screen when booted using Nvidia's closed driver for this chip. What happens is that the laptop boots but the display is switched to the external VGA connector - most users won't realise this and will assume that an Ubuntu failure has occurred. The work-around that has been used for Ubuntu versions prior to Hardy has been to add: Option "Connected Monitor" "DFP" to the appropriate section of xorg.conf. The old work around no longer functions correctly however as xorg.conf seems to be rewritten automatically by the system at each boot and therefore manual modifications are lost. I realise that the root of the problem is some bad interaction or default settings assumption being made by the closed source Nvidia driver (which we can't in all probability change), however, not having a sensible workaround will make this troublesome for any number of older laptop users. It might even be possible to specifically check for this chipset during boot and add the appropriate 'fix' to the auto generated xorg.conf to get around the issue in an 'it just works' type fashion.
