I always set the brightness at minimum level when using my laptop on
battery power. If I let it inactive for a time, and then use it again,

While start should never fail for an init script, when the process is
already running (which gets fixed above), the real problem appears to be
hal running, when acpid gets installed (not upgraded).

particular, I find the font rendering on Feisty to be superb. I use
DejaVu Sans-serief, size 11 as my default font under KDE, and I've set
to use the same font for GTK apps, so firefox also uses the same font.

I've got the same problem on a VAIO FZ160E. Seems to be a common problem
on Vaios : see bug #216345 .
Hal reports if battery is charging or discharging as well as the
remaining power. Maybe guidance-power-manager should rely on those info
to switch between power management policies.

Yes, this still occurs today, even with the Compiz/X/NVIDIA packages
from Hardy Heron. Attaching logs taken with the Hardy packages and
changing back to New.
These logs were taken with me using SMPlayer and the 'xv' output module.

I workarrouned after failed isntallations with:
sudo mkdir /var/run/firebird
sudo mkdir /var/run/firebird/2.0
sudo chown -R firebird:firebird /var/run/firebird

I am having this same problem. I installed via Ubuntu Hardy Beta CD. I
enabled the restricted ATI driver through Hardware Drivers (jockey).
Update Manager updated compiz and replaced some packages. The reason
this is broken is that I do not have /usr/bin/gtk-window-decorator. I
