[Bug 201638] Re: torcs-bin crashed with SIGSEGV

2008-05-24 Thread nzadLithium
I think i may have the same problem. At first i thought it was just
crashing about 10 seconds in. Then i realised it was when i hit another
car that it crashed (for example drove into the car to push it out of
way :p ). Is this the same thing as you? I'm using nvidia driver. You
can get debugging symbols for torcs from synaptic after adding this
repository: deb http://ddebs.ubuntu.com gutsy main universe

I have debugging symbols now but I cant figure out how to get gdb to
debug it :S When i was trying to debug it i found that the bin file its
accessing is a script that initiates torcs and tells it where all the
libs are etc. In that same file it said something about debugging torcs
with -d option. So i did that and I'm adding output as attachment. Maybe
it has the backtrace you want?

The bit near the bottom looks like a backtrace to me? but I don't know I
don't have much experience in debugging (I've only ever written
extremely basic programs and only needed to debug once).

[Bug 202089] Re: Pulseaudio is blocking normal sound after resume

2008-05-24 Thread TheFlyingPengwyn
I had a similar problem while coding an openAL program. I found a simple
fix by using asoundconf

asoundconf set-pulseaudio

This makes alsa go via the long route, through pulseaudio, rather than
straight to the sound devices. Works fine so far. I haven't restarted
yet, but assume that won't be a problem.

[Bug 234711] [NEW] Print-preview pop-up fails to disappear

2008-05-24 Thread thobbs
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit

Ubuntu 8.04
Gedit 2.22.1

When viewing a print preview of a plain text file, if the cursor remains
stationary for a few seconds, a small yellow pop-up appears, stating
"Page 2 of 5", or something similar. However, after the cursor is moved,
the pop-up fails to disappear as expected. It remains there until you
left-click on the preview or move the cursor off of the application.
Although I doubt this is done on purpose, it is annoying. Nothing big,
just thought I would let you know.

[Bug 207072] Re: nautilus does not display samba shares for machines inside an ADS network.

2008-05-24 Thread John Kuang
I swapped in the smb-browse binary from comment 28. Seems to work, but
the only thing is it doesn't do is to save the passwords into the
keyring. Another big problem I discovered was that if you bookmark any
windows server (eg. smb://server ) that requires password in nautilus,
you will SLOW DOWN your save/save as/open dialogs in programs such as
gimp, openoffice, and practically any gtk programs. It will take around
5 seconds for the dialog to appear. When I removed those bookmarks, the
save/save as/open file dialogs became zippy again. Having the actual
share bookmarked (eg. smb://server/share) doesnt slow things down.
Anyone else experiencing this?

[Bug 184314] Re: Headphone jack does not work in NC1502

2008-05-24 Thread gnuslov
In order to compile the alsa driver you'll need to install the build-
essential package first.

I just tried the directions on my everex gbook va1500v (which I
understand to be almost identical to the nc1502) and I can report that
it doesn't work. I'm running hardy 8.04 and still experiencing the same
problem.

Interestingly, the gOS install that came with the laptop (a derivative
of ubuntu 7.10) had no problem with the headphone jack. I dug though
the files from the gOS recovery disk (I wiped gOS off my hard drive in
order to install hardy) and discovered something called "via-linux-
audiopackV1.5.tar.gz". It would seem that gOS is running an unreleased
version of the audio drivers from via. I've tried installing these in
hardy but they still don't fix my headphone problem.

Things seem to fluctuate for me in Hardy. As far as I can tell, it
sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. I would love to have somebody
help us isolate the problem.

[Bug 218000] Re: XRandR Rotation with -intel doesn't work with compiz [x3100]

2008-05-24 Thread Kieran Fleming
I've had the same problem, and decided it was a compiz bug. If you can manage
to get a terminal up, try running:
compiz --replace
and see if that fixes your problem. If it does, then I would suggest
reassigning this bug to compiz.

[Bug 234704] [NEW] upgrade to 8.04 asks user to quit all applications too early in the upgrade process

2008-05-24 Thread Chris Thomas (CTho)
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: update-manager

The distribution upgrade process asked me to quit all applications
before it started downloading new packages. It then spent 2 hours
downloading new packages before doing anything that really required
quitting applications. I should be able to use my computer normally
until the point where the upgrade actually starts making changes (i.e.
only tell the user to quit applications *after* the "Getting new
packages" step).

That said, if I were doing an unattended upgrade, I wouldn't want to
have to wait around for 2 hours to hit "ok" on the prompt to quit all
applications, so I don't have any suggestions for a perfect solution.

[Bug 234703] [NEW] terminal server client on all expo workspaces

2008-05-24 Thread goggleboy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

When working in full screen mode with the terminal server client, using
a mouse-click key binding to go to expo view results in the same
terminal server being shown on every workspace. Selecting any workspace
takes you straight back to the terminal server client.

Instead, what I would expect is expo to display the terminal server
client on just the workspace that it is on. All other workspaces would
show the Ubuntu desktop with whatever programs are running on that
workspace.

[Bug 234700] [NEW] Selecting "Shut Down" leads to a reboot

2008-05-24 Thread Nick

Shut Down not longer functions normally. Ubuntu appears to go through
the shutdown processor normally but once power is turn off the system

[Bug 32963] Re: totem overrides XV_CONSTRAST/XV_SATURATION to wrong default value (Xv movies on i810/i945 have horrible colour/gamma/contrast)

2008-05-24 Thread Conn
@Bryce Harrington: I tried the patch from bug #151 and it didn't help
this situation either. I believe the purpose of that patch is to provide
values to improve colour reproduction, and while it's a good patch that
has (IIRC) been pushed upstream, it doesn't help with this particular
bug.

@Thomas Fritzsche: I tried the proposed patch you referred to in comment
#161, and while the default values have been redefined, totem-gstreamer
still continues to modify these settings without user consent.

Each time you open a movie with totem-gstreamer, the following occurs:
XV_BRIGHTNESS is reduced by 1 point;
XV_CONTRAST is reduced by 2 points;
XV_SATURATION is reduced by 3 points.

Also, it seems XV_COLORKEY increases by 5 points (from 66046 to 66051)
after the first invocation of totem, but it remains stable at 66051,
unlike the three attributes above.

@James McPhee: this bug report is for Intel cards only, your linked bug
is not related.

[Bug 190754] Re: Over-optimistic buffering in PulseAudio causes underruns (audible stuttering, pops)

2008-05-24 Thread tvst
I get the same behavior as just about everyone else here, but I do not
thing it's a PulseAudio issue. At first it did seem it was Pulse-
related, since thinks worked smoothly when I killed the PulseAudio
daemon and used ALSA instead. That is, I could play music, Alt-Tab,
switch desktops, listen to audio from Flash sites, all at the same time.

However, when I listen to music with Rhythmbox and play a movie in Totem
(even if the movie is paused) I can produce glitches on the music by
Alt-tabbing, switching desktops, etc.

I'm on a Pentium M 1.73MHz, with 1GB RAM, Mobility Radeon x300 (fglrx),
2 soundcards (one internal, one USB) and no compiz.

Since I never use the internal card, I don't know if the glitches happen
only on the USB one. I will test that and report back.

[Bug 225749] Re: Ubuntu 8.04 LiveCD fails to boot when RTL8102E LAN chip is enabled - with modprobe abnormal exit on ICH8M laptop

2008-05-24 Thread Keith Neal
Hein,

Thank you for the info ... These are the two packages that I downloaded
and installed;

1st install, linux-
headers-2.6.24-18_2.6.24-18.32ubuntu6_all.deb

2nd install, linux-
image-2.6.24-18-generic_2.6.24-18.32ubuntu6_i386.deb

uname -a results:
Linux ubuntu-mobile 2.6.24-18-generic #1 SMP Sat May 17 09:50:59 UTC 2008 i686
GNU/Linux

I'm now able to connect to the Internet via the wired network interface.
I'll have to take a trip over to a friends house this weekend to see if
the wireless connection works. My laptop appears to be very similar to
yours; the only difference that I see is I have a 250 GB Toshiba drive,
and 3 GB of memory.

Sincerely,
Keith Neal

[Bug 228067] Re: lyx 1.5.3-1 crashes as soon as it starts

2008-05-24 Thread Cyrus Jones
The Debian LyX maintainers strongly advise against using checkinstall
for LyX, and they state that using checkinstall for LyX could have bad
consequences. The best way it seems to fix LyX while keeping the
packaging system intact (no make install) is to use the Prevu tool I
mentioned in my comment above:

Is there going to be upstream support for GnuTLS?

If not, perhaps a fork would be appropriate to avoid this conflict.

[Bug 210783] Re: Cannot save/copy images properly from evince

2008-05-24 Thread Jean-François Fortin Tam
I have tested Evince 2.22.1.1 poppler 0.8.2 (cairo), thanks to matteo,
and some bugs are fixed indeed, but not everything. For example, I just
had to try out some other files such as this one to stumble on problems.
Try saving all the images of that file: some of them will, some won't
(cannot be dragged, or no popup menu option). For an easy example, at
the last page, the bottom-right image can be saved, but the 3 other
images around it cannot.

On page 18, some of the images can be saved, others can not.

Also, sometimes some images are saved "flipped vertically" (but I'm not
sure if that is a bug, as it happened only with the PDFs from that
particular author).

Moreover, sometimes you can only save with right-clicking, you cannot
drag and drop for some really strange reason. For example, on page 3,
try drag and dropping the ugly faces. Sometimes they will work, and
sometimes they will *stop working*. Really weird.

Actually, I have found how to reproduce this. Initiate a drag operation,
then drop immediately in the middle of nowhere (inside evince for
example). Then, you won't be able to drag *anything* from the PDF again,
until you have switched to another window/application and come back. Not
100% reliable to trigger, but easy nonetheless.

So, in short, there seems to be 2-3 bugs hiding in there.

[Bug 188502] Re: [needs-packaging] expresskeys

2008-05-24 Thread Troy James Sobotka
Ok. As per http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=4965973 there is a
fix for Hardy.

First, the Intuos3 works out of the box for me. The strip works, the
express buttons work flawlessly as buttons detected under xev.

That said, expresskeys adds very helpful attaching of the buttons to key
presses and as such, are easily modifiable via xmodmap.

A one line change of src-expresskeys/get_device.c on line 462:

if (xdevice_list[i].use == IsXExtensionDevice) {

changes to:

if (xdevice_list[i].use == IsXExtensionDevice ||
xdevice_list[i].use == IsXExtensionPointer) {

I have created a branch and a project for this package with the patch applied.
Someone out there with Debian-fu should be able to branch and create the proper
bits to make it a PPA compatible series. Once we get this up, we will have an
auto-compiled package available.

[Bug 192888] Re: firefox crashes on flash contents when using libflashsupport

2008-05-24 Thread Arthur
@Conn: Yes, I know that libflashsupport is part of ia32-libs. I've just
retested and can't reproduce the crashes with or without the
(unnecessary) libflashsupport package. So it was something else that
made the crashes go away. By the way I can play dozens of different
flash videos concurrently all together producing a quodlibet/cacophony
of audio output, no problem whatsoever. Probably people could try a
ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/nightly/latest-trunk/firefox-3.1a1pre
.en-US.linux-i686.tar.bz2 build to see whether they see the issue with
that version.

[Bug 234691] [NEW] [Hardy] Links to ntfs folders do not work properly on reboot

2008-05-24 Thread Aaron Whitehouse
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I am using Ubuntu Hardy 8.04. I have a 70GB windows/ntfs partition on
this machine.

I click Places > 70 GB Volume. The drive icon appears on the desktop.
I navigate to the folder that I want a link to. I middle-click drag to
the desktop and create a link. For that session, the link to the folder
works as expected.

When I reboot, the 70 GB icon is no longer on my desktop and the icon
for the link is different. If I click the link, I get an error that the
link doesn't work and do I want to move it to the trash. Another window
appears over the top of this saying that it is trying to open and click
cancel to cancel. (One cannot actually click this window until the
first error is clicked (even though it is underneath.)

>From this point, clicking Places > 70 GB volume gives an error:

[Bug 222931] Re: Gparted can't resize NTFS

2008-05-24 Thread shanen (Shannon Jacobs)
Any particular reason to think that might be useful? Are you [darb]
saying that it includes a utility to prepare the bad sector information
for the satisfaction of gparted?

Anyway, I am still unsure whether or not to recommend that the bug be
closed. It seems pretty clear that gparted is relying upon information
that may not be available. However, since that problem only exists in
the context of NTFS, but that context may reliably include the Windows-
based tools to work around the problem... On the other hand, I think
that gparted ought to be prepared to deal with the situation I
encountered.

[Bug 234690] [NEW] 54jde.el registers wrong java version

2008-05-24 Thread Chook Gek
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: jde

54jde.el - function debian-jde-register-jdks - reports and registers
wrong version of java. If package sun-java5-bin is installed, then
debian-jde-register-jdks reports "53" as a version, instead of
"1.5.0_15".

As a result of this, jde-mode failed in the middle of processing, on line 901:
"(if (and (not (jde-debugger-running-p))
jde-project-context-switching-enabled-p)"

Probable source of problem is the way how debian-jde-register-jdks interpret
output from "/usr/sbin/update-java-alternatives --list":
"java-1.5.0-sun 53 /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.5.0-sun"

- it treats second column (which is "priority" in
/usr/lib/jvm/.java-1.5.0-sun.jinfo) as a java version.

Workaround: comment out (debian-jde-register-jdks) in 54jde.el:95.

[Bug 192888] Re: firefox crashes on flash contents when using libflashsupport

2008-05-24 Thread Conn
Peter, I simply took the 64bit Ubuntu source and hacked it to work on
32bit architectures. Here's a page describing nspluginwrapper:
http://gwenole.beauchesne.info//en/projects/nspluginwrapper

Arthur, I'm not sure if your experience will necessarily reflect other
users, as libflashsupport seems to be packaged in the "ia32-libs"
package for 64bit users. I noticed on the PulseAudio list there was a
user requesting assistance (regarding this bug, IIRC), and he was
convinced libflashsupport wasn't enabled, because he uninstalled the
"libflashsupport" package. He was wrong, however, and libflashsupport
was active all the time. This confusion should be addressed with regards
to the packaging for 64bit users.

It would be ideal if that not-very-helpful-message displayed the list of

[Bug 192888] Re: firefox crashes on flash contents when using libflashsupport

2008-05-24 Thread Arthur
As I've said in comment 162 I haven't had a single crash with Seamonkey
stable or current Firefox nightlies installed from the Mozilla servers
since installing libflashsupport and nspluginwrapper on my AMD64 Hardy
system. A simple ~/.mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so -> /usr/lib
/flashplugin-nonfree/libflashplayer.so symlink enables the flash plugin.
So what I would be interested in is whether people affected by this bug
see it with the "official" builds from ftp.mozilla.org. If we're lucky
it's some sort of incompatibility between the Hardy
firefox/xulrunner-1.9 builds and flash. I've had exactly the issue as
described here before and haven't seen it since.

2008-05-24 Thread Valentin Neacsu
I'd like to be able to use CTRL+Shift+Esc to open gnome-system-monitor
(equivalent of Taks Manager on Windows). This bug is preventing me from
doing that. With Metacity the mentioned shortcut works.

[Bug 192888] Re: firefox crashes on flash contents when using libflashsupport

2008-05-24 Thread Peter Berry
I've been using nspluginwrapper for Flash for quite a long time now, and
it has always been much less annoying to have just the plugin crash than
the whole browser. I take the view that proprietary binary blobs are
almost as bad in the browser as in the kernel, so any step to uncouple
them is good IMO. (Obviously it would be best if the Flash plugin were
made open source and/or Flash itself opened up, but that's up to Adobe.)

BTW Conn, while your nspluginwrapper package works, I'm intrigued as to
what exactly it does. Does it have special magic for the Flash plugin or
does it work for others as well?

[Bug 204547] Re: Fortran files: gedit code-comment plugin and gtksourceview

2008-05-24 Thread John M
There are two new issues, besides the one I pointed out above, with the
way gedit highlights Fortran files:

-If the file extension is F90 (instead of f90) and the file was
originally written in MS-Windows, it is clasiffied as a MATLAB file
(mime: text/x-matlab)

-If the file extension is f or F, the file is not highlighted at all
(i.e., the mime is text/plain).

[Bug 152206] Re: Intel 965G (GMA X3000) - Video Tearing Effect & Poor Performance

2008-05-24 Thread Andy Botting
wfrancis, I must have been asleep when I wrote that.

I meant to say Vertical Blank Sync. You can find it from the
Configuration -> Appearance -> Screen menu.

It seemed to fix my tearing issue, but I was getting other problems. I
was seeing the screen flicker and jump, and this often ended with the
screen going all one colour and requiring a reboot to fix it.

I've switched to the i810 driver which seems to work better.
