Given that we're verifying Kubuntu's Guidance Power Manger in this bug, I think it's not at all suprising that the KDE change didn't fix the Gnome user's problem. I'd vote irrelevant. Personally I've seen considerable improvement from this fix and I don't actually have the problematic hardware.
