It was the CD I got from ShipIt, the old one was originally an Ubuntu
8.04 Alpha 1 install, the steps I used to enable the video driver is
normal, go to Hardware Drivers and enabling the Nvidia driver. I will

PROBLEM: - the overlapping partitions seems to be the problem. However mine
went wobbly with the 'simple' trial installation of windoze(xp). I should have

When I install the Ubuntu 8.04 32-bit version from CD onto a computer
with a 64-bit processor, it corrupts packages. So far I've installed it
on a Dell GX620 and a custom computer with a AMD Athlon 3000+
Some more poking around revealed that I needed /etc/default/locale to contain
LANG=en_US, not just the locale name, because it's sourced as a shell script.
With this change, X now starts on bootup (bad syntax in /etc/default/locale was
