system languages as well? There has only been minimal testing

time, so I killed that and quit knetwork manager, then restarted
knetworkmanager.
That made it work.

When you go to turn compiz back on do you select Extra or Custom?
Do you have a Custom option? If not then try installing simple-ccsm.

I do have the same issue. Especially the OSD-Box in the middle of screen
is annoying. I got a Sony Vaio SZ2M-B laptop with Centrino Duo chipset.

Hey Folks,
I guess things figured themselves out after reloading sound and a re-
boot.
I guess such a simple solution, I just have not had to reboot in a long
time due to updates.
There was no notification as usual for a reboot either. I guess for a
moment Ubuntu was acting like windows

profiles for unix and ldap I can't seem to find one for kerberos.

The last debdiff is correct, uploaded.
The only remaining problem is gnome-devel being uninstallable due to
anjuta being uninstallable, but that's anjuta's fault and not meta-
gnome2. I'll make sure it's fixed soon in any case.

I have 6 Ubuntu 8.04.1 machines and all of them developed the same
problem at about the same time. The workaround noted above of editing
smb.conf worked in all 6 machines. It does take about 44 seconds for
the Places Network applet to appear, but after that, browsing the
network is fine. I
The proposed updates do, indeed, stop the keyboard going into laptop
mode when the numlock/clear key is pressed.
It's still sub-optimal, though:
* The function keys only work when 'fn' is held down. The pb_fnmode value
change corrects this, but this *should* be the default: without 'fn' held
