I also see this issue frequently on Intrepid using Flash 10 beta (not RC
- as of right now, that hasn't hit the archives).
My speculation is that Flash will crash, causing a gray box to appear,

I think that any "quick fix" will be incomplete without WPAD support in
apt's http backend. It means that automatic proxy settings in gconf
cannot be honored. (assumption: Synaptic uses apt's http backend) You
should report an error if gconf is set to automatic proxy.

Yea, I know I can browse, but I don't know. Somehow I like more the

/etc/network/interfaces just has the standard
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback
I was testing out on my *other* network as well - with static IP. I
could get neither the wired nor wireless to work there, no error
messages on dmesg. And, as before, it works fine under gnome's nm-
applet
This is fixed in Ubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid).

Ah, I know what's going on, thanks for the log.
You have a Broadcom ethernet card (ssb:v4243id0806rev07, using the
kernel module b44) as well as a Broadcom wifi card (v4243id0807rev03, I
suspect). The latter would actually be covered by the new "wl" driver,
but this does not work together with the

Right... I have experienced numerous Python related issues on this
install including the one you just mentioned. So it looks like that
could possibly be the root cause (although no other issue happened in
proximity to this one). I too would hate to imagine that many buggy KDE
Python programs.
