I just did a fresh install of xubuntu 8.10 on a clean disk Compaq
Presario 1800 with 196MB RAM. Same problem as described above. Screen

I did some more testing today on the SH-S203P drive. I did both a BIOS
upgrade, tried to to experiment with setting SATA to compatible mode in
BIOS and disabling memory remapping. Also tried to boot with acpi=off
noapic nolapic nohz=off pci=nomsi settings (and a combination of those),

Hi
like in the old Hardy distro i could play songs by just passing my
cursor over an song file but in Intrepid it is not possible by default.
Solution:
select an mp3 song and the player ask if to look for codec and after an
complete install of coded for the player
Also affects me on 64-bit inrepid.

Just a heads up,
I had to change the phone firmware version on the patch file for it to
properly recognize the device ( UNUSUAL_DEV( 0x0421, 0x0024, 0x,
0x0660 ). Mine was 6.60 compared to Bardok's 4.81.
And by the way, package linux-kernel-devel doesn't seem to be available
in Intrepid

just for fun I renamed /usr/lib/hal/hald-addon-dell-backlight to
/usr/lib/hal/OFFhald-addon-dell-backlight, and now everything seems to
work (including screen brightness controls).
