I've got this too - ATI RADEON 9000.
Black screen with the live cd normal mode, then chose graphics safe mode -
which worked fine. After installing, just a black screen when the kde login
screen should appear :(

I'm seeing this in hardy (though I never remember seeing it before).
I'm used a wired connection to a router, and every so often my internet
connection disappears. When this happens, I find eth0:avahi in the
output of ifconfig, and the eth0 line has no inet addr line (only
inet6). Doing

thanks Michael. I have un-installed driver using envyng -t and then
reinstall the default ATI driver from the Gnome UI. It is now working...
(don't ask me why).However the system is sometimes freezing out of the
blue... I will keep monitoring it and may report another bug when I
gather more
Was running an unsupported driver. I reinstalled supported driver and it
worked however the supported driver did not work out of the box. I
suppose the changes I made to menu.lst or xorg.conf file fixed the
problem that experienced in the first place.

I still (occasionally) seem to have the same issue. It only seems to
happen the first time I log in after a reboot. I attached the two
xsession-error logs. HTH.

Spotted that after my last update. Have pulled that forward today and
will post up a test kernel for that later on. It wasn't trivial as the
procmisc kernel interfaces used by our driver have been deprecated and
removed.
