[Bug 253422] Re: Realtek ALC883 speakers don't mute when headphones plugged in
I didn't know I had SPDIF... There are 3 connectors on my sound card: microphone, headphones and a blue one. There is a symbol which makes me think of an antenna (similar to http://www.wpclipart.com/telephone/antenna.png without the pedestal) and no SPDIF written under it. According to wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sound_card#Color_codes) it should be an analog line level audio input, so I don't think it's SPDIF (as you wrote it's an optical audio output) except if they use the same colour (wikipedia doesn't tell which colour is used by SPDIF). If I get the opportunity to test a SPDIF system, I'll post the result here. [Bug 301257] [NEW] NetworkManager slows down skype
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: network-manager Hi folks, I recently upgraded my girlfriend's laptop to Intrepid. Afterwards I found out that when we're talking via skype the quality of the connection from her to me is a lot worse than before (sometimes I could hear just noise). The problem persisted all the time (reboots, different days, ...) but vanished after $ sudo update-rc.d -f NetworkManager remove and editing /etc/network/interfaces by hand, followed by a reboot. Besides the sky application she could not find any other problems related to internet connections. I have to add that she's having a WLan-card which was enabled, but not connected. Her internet connection was established via cable and the XUbuntu installation is not a fresh one, but some 1,5 years old, but always up-to-date. Additionally, I have to admit that the computer is an old one, lspci gives: 00:0a.0 Network controller: RaLink RT2500 802.11g Cardbus/mini-PCI (rev 01) 00:12.0 Ethernet controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. [Bug 35530] Re: USB Keyboard not working
I personally can confirm the issue. I first noticed it with another Linux distro (a rescue distro) that loaded menu.c32 by default. From syslinux 3.53 to 3.61, the bug existed. The last patch (to the syslinux core/) before 3.62 resolved the issue. 3.62 and later work without any known issues with respect to this. Certain older versions also do not have this issue. I've only noticed it with the Dell OptiPlex GX620 and BIOS A11. A10 and below do not have this issue. If menu.c32/vesamenu.c32 was not loaded, the USB keyboard worked without any troubles (using the vanilla syslinux). [Bug 301218] Re: User Switcher has quit unexpectedly
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. As you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. Once you have done this, repeat the steps necessary to recreate the crash. If you don't see a crash notification and you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit. If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using /usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. [Bug 301278] [NEW] All SDL apps crash in DirectFB on PPC
Public bug reported: This problem's first symptom is that you are completely logged out of your X session as soon as you try to run something like Tuxpaint on PPC. I have seen it on Fedora, Debian Lenny and Intrepid. Etch worked fine, probably because directfb was version 0.9. I have stepped though Tuxpaint until an SDL init: SDL_Init(1048625) (Those flags are: SDL_INIT_VIDEO | SDL_INIT_TIMER | SDL_INIT_AUDO | SDL_INIT_NOPARACHUTE) I then stepped through the SDL code until here: DirectFB_CreateDevice (devindex=value optimized out) at ../../src/video/directfb/SDL_DirectFB_video.c:123 DirectFB_CreateDevice crashes. It sometimes prints the error below, but mostly it doesn't print anything, it just terminates the session. Since it looks permissions related I have run everything as root but that doesn't help. -8x-8x---8x-8x---8x ===| DirectFB 1.0.1 |=== (c) 2001-2007 The DirectFB Organization (directfb.org) (c) 2000-2004 Convergence (integrated media) GmbH (*) DirectFB/Core: Single Application Core. [Bug 301287] [NEW] Rhythmbox freeze between tracks
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: rhythmbox Although this does not happen consistently, Rhythmbox has had a number of complete freezeups when switching tracks. The UI becomes somewhat blanked out (outlines of some elements are visible, but no text or widgets), and sound output stops. The app becomes completely unresponsive and has to be killed. After relaunching Rhythmbox, attempting to play a track results in the message Couldn't start playback: failed to open output device. Some other sound-capable apps are also affected: after such a crash, both VLC and Totem lose audio capabilities, but others, for example, embedded flash (e.g. YouTube) plays fine. Running Jaunty (9.04) alpha 1. [Bug 301286] [NEW] dolphin crashes system with huge images
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: dolphin If you have a real huge image a folder dolphin trys to create a thumbnail. It allocates a lot of memory (surprise, surprise) and at some point it starts to swap. When this point is reached your system goes unstable and you are happy if you don't need to kill X.
