worked. It seems that the unread status is back up.
What changed was evolution-data-server to version 2.24.2-0ubuntu1.

I have very similar problem: when I'm shutting down or reseting system
(Ubuntu 8.10 AMD64) sometimes, often but not always this takes something
about one minute or two, with similar messages, but I do not see those
again and again, but once, two times, something like this:

Thanks Noel, but the bug's been figured out now. alsactl works
fine...it just happens to have ended up in the wrong place so that the
init script couldn't find it. That's why it's been marked a duplicate.

Just confirming that Daniel's diagnosis and proposed fix works. While
waiting for the new version, I've tested by creating a (temporary)
symlink from /sbin/alsactl to /usr/sbin/alsactl, and audio works again
after a reboot.

Ubuntu is not as obnoxious Debian regarding licenses, afaik. The Debian-
vs-GFDL silliness is a very good reason to use Ubuntu instead.
I can note that still in intrepid it works perfectly fine to use the
gutsy package
After manually loading uinput, acpi_fakekeyd sucesfully started, volume
keys *do* work, as well as the "Access IBM" key, that didn't work before
(with intrepid's version of acpi-support). So it seems to work for me!
