If you aren't, then the NFS problems probably aren't specific to exporting NTFS filesystems. I mostly use XFS (which, like ext3, has support in the Linux kernel, not through FUSE like NTFS 3g). The issue at hand is with the kwinrulesrc in the kubuntu-default- settings package. We need to either remove this setting (which I think we should do) or get the sizing stuff correct (either in the rc file or fix a possible issue in kwinrules). I say we remove the following from kubuntu-default- settings/kde4-profile/default/share/config/kwinrulesrc: [15] Description=Okular initial default size size=750,560 sizerule=3 types=1 wmclass=okular wmclasscomplete=false wmclassmatch=1 Do any of the Kubuntu devs know why we have this setting? Is it because of the weird window size Okular used to start up as a while back? As it would start up very small and in the top left hand corner of the screen. [Bug 307829] Re: DVD playback jerky with pata_amd
Wait, wait, don't follow those directions exactly as they are. After step 3, you need to edit your xorg.conf file (same way as in step 8) and change "nvidia" to "nv" in the Device section. Then reboot the computer, make sure you select the custom kernel (it ends with -v3000) and start with step 4. When you get to step 8, change the driver back to nvidia. -- DVD playback jerky with pata_amd https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/307829 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 307829] Re: DVD playback jerky with pata_amd
Worry not... most later Semprons are also 64-bit, though it's generally unadvertised. The information you posted above makes it look like yours is too, and you have pretty much the same hardware I do besides that, so you should be able to use my custom kernel without a problem. Here's a quick guide to how to proceed: 0. Plug in an ethernet cable for now. This will temporarily break your wireless. 1. download the kernel archive from rapidshare, unzip it, and install the two .deb files 2. go to www.nvidia.com and download the latest Linux driver... should be version 177.82. put it on your desktop. also go to the link I posted above for the Broadcom STA driver and download the file they mention on that page; put it on your desktop also. 3. in a terminal, run the following command: "sudo apt-get --purge remove linux-restricted-modules-* nvidia-*" (without the quotes). It will ask you for your password. 4. Once that's done, hit ctrl-alt-f1, which will take you to a console screen. log in, and then get to your desktop ("cd Desktop"). 5. Stop your X server from running: "sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop" 6. Install the build package ("sudo apt-get install build-essential"), so that the NVIDIA driver will compile. 7. Set the NVIDIA driver to be able to run ("sudo chmod 777 NVIDIA- whatever-the-driver-name-is.run") and then install it ("sudo ./NVIDIA- whatever-the-driver-name-is.run") and pretty much follow the prompts. It will compile and install. 8. Check your xorg.conf file ("sudo nano /etc/X11/xorg.conf") and make sure the "Device" section includes the line: "Driver" "nvidia" (if it doesn't, add it anywhere before EndSection.) 9. Restart your X server (sudo /etc/init.d/gdm start). If you removed all the restricted modules and nvidia packages, it should work just like it did before. 10. Follow the instructions on the link above for installing the Broadcom STA driver. 11. Enjoy your newly-working-properly DVD drive. -- DVD playback jerky with pata_amd https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/307829 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I then tried to print a pdf from the same site. Again, it dissapeared, but didn't print. Then I tried printing the ubuntu home page. Same thing. I downloaded Opera for ubuntu 8.10 and all three things printed properly. Other apps print correctly. The problem is only with ff 3.0.5 ProblemType: Bug Architecture: i386 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 8.10 Package: firefox-3.0 3.0.5+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.8.10.1 ProcEnviron: PATH=/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: firefox-3.0 Uname: Linux 2.6.27-9-generic i686 ** Affects: firefox-3.0 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug -- printing anything (webpage, pdf, form) disappears into ether but nor error msg and no print https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/309904 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 221651] Re: Blender (windowed) run in fullscreen
Same problem as jeldert. I have disabled the "Legacy Fullscreen" option in compiz and tried both the blender from the repository and from the website. Both open fullscreen, and goes invisible when doing any type of compiz stuff (scale, etc). You must "click" on the invisible "window" to make it appear again. Other than that it seems to "work"... -- Blender (windowed) run in fullscreen https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/221651 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 309864] Re: Shiny Switcher applet, drawing problem during animation and virtual desktop/workspace change
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 273326 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/273326 > I realize that the readme says that my card is supported by the 180 > series drivers. However, it is not. I can assure you that the xserver > will not load with these drivers and the GeForce FX 5200 card. In the > detailed errors from the xserver the driver gives a response that says > this card is now being moved into legacy support. If I were you, I'd file a bug report with Nvidia about that, to ensure that this sort of thing doesn't happen in the future. Regardless, my point here is that in the bug in question, people apparently have experienced a significant increase in artifacts between distribution versions in the first half of 2008 (e.g., Fedora 9, Ubuntu Hardy) and the second half of 2008 (e.g., Fedora 10, Ubuntu Intrepid), with regards to Nvidia users. This has apparently been fixed with the 180 driver series. Those who can't use the 180 driver series should file bugs with Nvidia, asking them to backport the xrender fixes. Those with other video cards do not have the artifacts with the same proportions as the people in the bug. -- Shiny Switcher applet, drawing problem during animation and virtual desktop/workspace change https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/309864 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu (via bug 273326). -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 301517] Re: solitaire game will not permit legal moves
REPLY HELP!I am not familiar enough with UBUNTU to know how to bring up th ecommand line into which t oenter the command. My efforts simply resulted in repeated error messages saying it failed. The software completely screwed up and I had to revert to ( blush) using my windoze computer to get back to my web mail and reply. Please run the following command; sudo apt-get remove gnome-games && sudo apt-get install gnome-games This will do a clean reinstall of the gnome-games package. Please try this, and try to recreate the problem again, and then notify us of the result. Thanks Joseph -- solitaire game will not permit legal moves https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/301517 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
