[Bug 246121] Re: A black screen is the result of using Application Switcher to switch from an Application to Firefox 3.0 in Full Screen Mode on another Workspace.
I have a similar issue, when any window is fullscreen, I can alt-tab, but as soon as I tab back to the full screen window X/Compiz appears to lock up. I am able to get control again after switching to tty1 and then back. I have noticed this behavior with Mplayer, VLC and Firefox all when in fullscreen mode. This bug disappears when Compiz is disabled and returns with Compiz. I've also narrowed it down to the "Application Switcher" and "Static Application Switcher" plugins. The bug does not occur with "Ring Switcher" or "Shift Switcher". My computer is running Ubuntu 8.10 and is up to date. Running on a Core 2 Duo E6420 and GeForce 8800 GTS, using Nvidia driver version 177. I can consistently reproduce the issue, please feel free to point and laugh if I forgot any important information. :) -- A black screen is the result of using Application Switcher to switch from an Application to Firefox 3.0 in Full Screen Mode on another Workspace. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/246121 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 312601] Re: 8.10 not autodetecting my sound card
Thanks much. Your third link is a great one. I'm not at the office now - which is where the machine in question resides - but when I get back there on Monday morning I will give it a try. I've already logged in remotely and installed all the packages mentioned in that thread. Many were needed, and this may be the thing that fixes the world. I'll make another post here on Monday sometime and let you know. Again, thanks for the pointers! I hope the problem will be resolved very soon. -- 8.10 not autodetecting my sound card https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/312601 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

FYI, I have just tested WPA2 on Windows XP on this laptop and it connects fine, so the hardware is capable of connecting to WPA2. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: util-linux i made a dd image of my laptop drive and try to work with it (mount, resizing etc). # losetup -a /dev/loop0: [fe01]:29253634 (/image.dd) # fdisk -lu /dev/loop0 Disk /dev/loop0: 60.0 GB, 60011642880 bytes 240 heads, 63 sectors/track, 7752 cylinders, total 117210240 sectors Units = sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes Disk identifier: 0x46514650 Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/loop0p1 * 63 8814959 4407448+ b W95 FAT32 /dev/loop0p2 8814960 11721023954197640f W95 Ext'd (LBA) /dev/loop0p5 8815023 11721023954197608+ 7 HPFS/NTFS the first partition is about 4,5GB, the rest is a logical partition. i first tried to use http://vytautas.jakutis.lt/node/26 but that did not work and i did not look into it, because i knew of the offset method as described here http://www.fluidsignal.com/en/publications/knowledge/20080923090245 . so... i tried to use the losetup -o option to create loop devices for the partitions. offset = start block * 512 offset p1 = 63 * 512 = 32256 => losetup -fo 32256 /dev/loop0 this worked ok (can't redo atm, see below) offset p5 = 4513291776 this is > 2^32. if i try to use that offset, it seems to work ok the first time (it returns instantly), but does not create a new loop device. if you try it again, it hangs with consuming 100% cpu time of one core. i straced it afterwards: stat("/dev", {st_mode=S_IFDIR|0755, st_size=14560, ...}) = 0 stat("/dev/loop", 0x7fff3d71f7e0) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) stat("/dev/loop0", {st_mode=S_IFBLK|0660, st_rdev=makedev(7, 0), ...}) = 0 open("/dev/loop0", O_RDONLY)= 3 ioctl(3, 0x4c03, 0x7fff3d71f6f0)= 0 close(3)= 0 stat("/dev/loop1", {st_mode=S_IFBLK|0660, st_rdev=makedev(7, 1), ...}) = 0 open("/dev/loop1", O_RDONLY)= 3 ioctl(3, 0x4c03, 0x7fff3d71f6f0)= -1 EOVERFLOW (Value too large for defined data type) close(3)= 0 open("/dev/loop0", O_RDWR) = 3 open("/dev/loop1", O_RDWR) = 4 readlink("/dev", 0x7fff3d71d620, 4096) = -1 EINVAL (Invalid argument) readlink("/dev/loop0", 0x7fff3d71d620, 4096) = -1 EINVAL (Invalid argument) ioctl(4, 0x4c00, 0x3) = -1 EBUSY (Device or resource busy) close(4)= 0 close(3)= 0 here it loops: stat("/dev", {st_mode=S_IFDIR|0755, st_size=14560, ...}) = 0 stat("/dev/loop", 0x7fff3d71f7e0) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) stat("/dev/loop0", {st_mode=S_IFBLK|0660, st_rdev=makedev(7, 0), ...}) = 0 open("/dev/loop0", O_RDONLY)= 3 ioctl(3, 0x4c03, 0x7fff3d71f6f0)= 0 close(3)= 0 stat("/dev/loop1", {st_mode=S_IFBLK|0660, st_rdev=makedev(7, 1), ...}) = 0 open("/dev/loop1", O_RDONLY)= 3 ioctl(3, 0x4c03, 0x7fff3d71f6f0)= -1 EOVERFLOW (Value too large for defined data type) close(3)= 0 open("/dev/loop0", O_RDWR) = 3 open("/dev/loop1", O_RDWR) = 4 readlink("/dev", 0x7fff3d71d620, 4096) = -1 EINVAL (Invalid argument) readlink("/dev/loop0", 0x7fff3d71d620, 4096) = -1 EINVAL (Invalid argument) ioctl(4, 0x4c00, 0x3) = -1 EBUSY (Device or resource busy) close(4)= 0 close(3)= 0 rinse repeat i searched for help and found http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/redhat-fedora-linux-help/111777-losetup-offset-there-limit-overflow.html that indicates, that there was a bug and it was fixed before 2.13-pre7. i use util-linux 2.14-1ubuntu2 but maybe its an amd64 bug, since im running 64bit ubuntu 8.10. after trying a too big offset, it is broken until reboot: i cant use a small offset. i cant detach the whole disk image. i cant rmmod loop. ill reboot now and strace the first run with a too big offset. ** Affects: util-linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- losetup 32bit offset limit, hang, remaining defunct https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/313385 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 313379] [NEW] Shares disappear from Nautilus weekly
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus About once a week at random, all shares both Windows and Ubuntu will disappear from the Nautilus Places/Network. This is a HARDWIRED LAN, NOT WIRELESS by the way. using SAMBA not NFS. We have made no changes of any kind to the computers. They work fine for about 3 or 4 days and Places/Network shows ALL of our shares with no problem. Then they will just disappear from Places/Network! However, if you go to Go/Location and type in the IP address of each machine, you can display the shares and mount them again and they work fine, just don't show in Places/Network is all. Also, all the shares appear in smbtree using terminal. And you can PING each machine no problem. >From any of the other 7 machines you can access the computer that is not >showing the shares. 2 machines are Windows XP, 6 are Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy. When Nautilus decides to act up, it's quite random, and can affect any machine, usually not all of the machines. It's like, well today is Friday, I think I'll just kick back and pester the daylights out of the operator today and not let the shares show today. Then tomorrow, not making a single change, shares start showing up again. I've been working with others to resolve this issue for over 3 months now and NOBODY can find anything wrong with ANY of my configuration files or Networking. I didn't expect they would, since everything works fine. The only issue seems to be that at random, Nautilus just decides it's NOT going to show shares in Places Network that day! One other thing, your BUG REPORTING TOOL in Nautilus does NOT WORK EITHER! Takes you to a page that displays the following: Lost something? There’s no page with this address in Launchpad. Check that you entered the address correctly. I didn't enter the address, I clicked on the LINK that Collects the Information and sends it, then it sends you to a non-existent web page here at Launchpad. [Bug 286119] Re: firefox 3.0.3 crashes (no SIG) on most pages w images: 8.10beta AMD64
I have attached the patch from the samba bug(https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5904) it fixed the problem on my ibex x64 box but I think the upstream bug has the wrong component listed, I think it should be winbind as the component. After building I am pretty sure you just need to install the winbind*.deb package and that is all, it fixed the problem for me. Write back if I am missing anything. I would submit a package but I have no clue how to do it? To build packages: sudo apt-get install build-essential fakeroot dpkg-dev mkdir -p ~/installs/samba/ cd ~/installs/samba apt-get source samba(Note no sudo here , do want the files to be owned by root) sudo apt-get build-dep samba dpkg-source -x samba_3.2.3-1ubuntu3.3.dsc cd samba-3.2.3 patch -p1 --dry-run < samba_bug5904.patch (if it says: patching file source/nsswitch/wins.c ) patch -p1 < samba_bug5904.patch dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot -b sudo dpkg -i ../winbind_3.2.3-1ubuntu3.3_amd64.deb add the wins section to your /etc/nsswitch.conf sudo /etc/init.d/winbind restart sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart Make sure you restart any programs that would be using dns. Only problem I see is my browser "seems" to run slower with wins enabled, but I have no quantitative proof only qualitative. Overall I think they had a threading issue in samba that causes the crash , the patch puts a mutex in and some other things. ** Attachment added: "upstream patch from samba bug 5904" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/20873967/samba_bug5904.patch -- firefox 3.0.3 crashes (no SIG) on most pages w images: 8.10beta AMD64 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/286119 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
