The best workaround I can find is to right click on the page. It seems
to temporarily fix the flickering. If you switch tabs or change window
focus you need to do it again, but if you're doing something that

While both drivers may have their strengths/weaknesses, it is certainly a
weakness of Ubuntu 8.10 that it ships with a driver which does not work out of
the box.
I use Ubuntu 8.10 on a Thinkpad T60, and for me it was a really big nuisance
that I couldn't make suspend/resume work properly, until
I found out in the meantime that there is a fundamental bug with Live
USB.
It has something to do with a ram disk that is incompatible with a kernel

This fix did not work for me, my md5sums are different from yours.
I did find a sort of work around.
I found that if there was input from a physical keyboard prior to an
attempt to use a keyboard through x11vnc, then X would not crash when
using x11vnc.
