[Bug 326087] Re: Shouldn't Configure key for SSH chmod 0644 autherized_keys?

2009-02-12 Thread Jonas Finnemann Jensen
SeaHorse 2.24.1 under Ubuntu 8.10, but I had a similar issue with Ubuntu
7.10, never resolved it, as I didn't try to chmod 0644 the file.

Before chmod:
jop...@dolomit:~/.ssh ls -@
-rw-rw-r-- 1 jopsen jopsen 407 Feb 12 12:36 authorized_keys

After chmod:
jop...@dolomit:~/.ssh chmod 0644 authorized_keys
jop...@dolomit:~/.ssh ls -@
-rw-r--r-- 1 jopsen jopsen 407 Feb 12 12:36 authorized_keys

I don't know if this is an issue specific to this SSH server, the
configuration of this server or similar... I've not used SSH that
much...

[Bug 291467] Re: Delayed Login

2009-02-12 Thread Id2ndR
@macabro22: you can put your ~/.xsession-errors file

@all:
- the problem is that compiz doesn't register itself to gnome-session and thus
gnome-session wait until timeout (10 seconds) = error WARNING: Application
'gnome-wm.desktop' failed to register before timeout
- the *workaround* that seems to works for more of us is to disable
gnome-wm.destop and start compiz with an other launcher.
  - in fact there is no more window manager = error WARNING: Unable to find
provider 'gnome-wm' of required component 'windowmanager'
  - ways to disable the windowmanager phase : uncheck it in
gnome-session-properties OR comment line X-GNOME-Autostart-Phase in
gnome-wm.desktop (in fact that, compiz will start as a normal application)

For those who still have the delay issue.
- Be sure that you don't have any windowmanager in the windowmanager phase :
you shouldn't have and timeout error related to it in your ~/.xsession-errors
file.
- Look at other possible errors in your ~/.xsession-errors file.

Explanation about the bug :

[Bug 325949] Re: kernel crashed during suspend

2009-02-12 Thread Andy Whitcroft
Could you please let us know the type of machine this is (make and
model). Has this ever worked in the past, if so which kernel release
(cat /proc/version_signature)? Please include any information as to the
circumstances leading up to this failure.

If this is crashing every time, then its worth trying to do the suspend
from the text console and see if any output if produced there during
shutdown. Booting with the kernel command line option
no_console_suspend may give you more information on the terminal too.
Please report any testing results back here. Thanks.

[Bug 325421] Re: Suspend/Resume or hibernate problem

2009-02-12 Thread Andy Whitcroft
The apport popup there is a delayed indication that something else went
wrong in the past. In this case it is telling us that there was a
suspend that started but did not complete, the machine was hardbooted
afterwards. The timing of the popup is not important.

Could you please let us know the type of machine this is (make and
model). Also did you recently have a suspend or hibernate failures, did
your battery run out? Has suspend/hibernate ever worked in the past, if
so which kernel release (cat /proc/version_signature)?

[Bug 325726] Re: email-attached data damaged or only partially

I have this too...

I am using Ubuntu Intrepid, with TB version 2.0.0.19 (20090105), my
accounts are set up with IMAP. My server is also Ubuntu, using Xmail
server. I have Squirrel Mail (via Dovecot - also IMAP) installed on the
server, which works absolutely fine with attachments. I have worked
around the problem by setting each account to download messages for
offline capability, but this is surely a workaround, not a fix?

[Bug 291467] Re: Delayed Login

2009-02-12 Thread cueball
Not sure if this is any use but I'm getting the same 10 second pauses

Removing and reinstalling Compiz and PulseAudio has helped to clear out

there now is:

[Bug 328491] [NEW] Can't access certain https websites

I could access it in Intrepid with no problems until beginning of

[Bug 328484] [NEW] displayport monitors not detected in Intrepid

2009-02-12 Thread phil anderson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

I'm using Ubuntu 8.10. I have a new Dell Optiplex 960 - this machine has
a built in Intel graphics controller with a Dell displayport digital
output, in addition to a normal VGA output. If I connect the PC to my
Dell 2408WFP monitor via the displayport, everything proceeds fine up to
the point where X tries to start, at this point the Intel video driver
fails to detect any connected monitors and bombs out. Ubuntu responds by
re-starting X with the VESA driver, which works (although slowly and
with resolution below that which I want to use). If I connect the
monitor via the VGA port, everything works fine - X boots successfully
using the Intel driver (although I would obviously prefer to use the
displayport connection for quality reasons). The PC/Monitor combination
works fine using displayport if i boot in Windows.

I tried compiling the latest version of xf86-video-intel from source (V
2.6.99.1) - the problem does exist in this latest version of the driver
too.

xorg.conf is not changed from the standard Ubuntu

[Bug 327021] Re: kUbuntu Desktop Effects Really Slow

2009-02-12 Thread Matthias Himber
Confirming this bug on a Lenovo Thinkpad T500 with Intel GMA 4500MHD
(Cantiga) graphics.

This does not seem to be just a KDE Problem, compiz is just as slow.
Moving windows works well, but opening/closing/minimizing/restoring lags
horribly (half a second or more). Animations of any kind are unusable.

Compositing on the same Hardware worked very well in Intrepid. I've been
going through Xorg.log and syslog, but found nothing helpful.

I also found a strange connection: the bug ALWAYS occur when using the Windows

[Bug 324808] Re: [Toshiba Satellite L300] suspend/sesume problem

2009-02-12 Thread Andy Whitcroft
Has suspend/resume ever worked in the past, if so which kernel release
(cat /proc/version_signature)? If your screen reader works on the raw
console then it is worth switching to VT-1 with control-alt-F1 and
logging in there. Trigger the suspend with the command pm-suspend from
the prompt there. It is possible that something will appear there.

[Bug 323006] Re: cant play mp3's, or videos in ubuntu 8.10 64 bit!

2009-02-12 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you
are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are
having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if
you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see

Re: [Bug 116752] Re: NMI received for unknown reason a0 on CPU 0

2009-02-12 Thread Manuel
Hi,

As far as I'm concerned, that error didn't appeared since Hardy Heron on my
laptop (Acer Aspire WSMI 1802 / 1800 series). And it never appeared with my
other pc's (ranging from old Pentium II / III and recent Core2Duo's).
I remain convinced (imho) that the cause was not purely kernel related, but
rather a combination of hardware / drivers hiccups.

In the time I signalled the problem, I could almost certainly provoke it by
using compiz (advanced effects) / firefox and that on my P4 / ATI Radeon
mobility (X600) video card base laptop. (Note: with the free Radeon driver
as with the non free fgrlx driver made no difference).

Deactivating compiz did vastly reduced the occurence of the error. At that
time Compiz was also far least stable has it has become... it may also be
related, although it was certainly not the only cause for deactivate it only
reduced the frequency of occurrence of the error.

Cheers,
Manuel

2009/2/12 Nick HS n...@daenim.com

Error does not appear in 2.6.28-6-generic with Jaunty.
