Suspend works just fine with Windows XP/Vista. I've been trying around
with Intrepid (Ubuntu/Kubuntu) and Ubuntu Hardy and all of these
experience the problem. Currently,

Anyway, you are correct. It was some kind of network problem. Later in the
same day I installed something else and the installer picked up the flash
plugin package again and it worked fine, went until the end pretty fast.
Congratulations on
Installing the newest flash from adobe as a .deb package solved the
problem, so the problem should really be in the Ubuntu package.

Seeing the same thing on that site. I suspect that the flash banner ads
are the cause of the problem. Can you try blocking flash (I think
there's a flashblock extension, or tune adblock to get those ads), and
see if CPU usage returns to normal?

Arand, are you able to give us the exact kernel (uname -a) and network-manager
(apt-cache policy network-manager) versions on those two live-CDs you've tested?
I don't have them to hand but it would make it easier to identify the change
that fixed it - whether in linux or network-manager.

- all python objects get destroyed automatically
- files stay open
