I am experiencing the same issue with my card, an ATI Technologies Inc
RV370 [Sapphire X550 Silent]: black screen after opening a new window,

Just upgraded from intrepid to jaunty. Went to print a simple OpenOffice
spreadsheet and getting those black squares for some letters/numbers.

I think the issue may be that you did not install openoffice.org-style-
crystal which is automatically installed for Kubuntu but if you install
KDE under Ubuntu you have to install it manually. Please let me know if
this solves your problem.

Workaround:
I put an executable file called 0defaultgw in directory /etc/ppp/if-up.d/
All it does is add a default route with the command
route add default gw 10.49.0.1 ppp0
Not very sophisticated, I know. But it did the trick.
If anyone knows a better way, please let me know.

I'm afraid that "what Windows does" is not a relevant yardstick. If you
have specific instances of where computer-janitor does something wrong
and does not warn the user they might be doing something dangerous,
please report them.
