[Bug 368273] Re: Jaunty 9.04 Blind to XP's Shared Network Printer

2009-05-03 Thread Ed Comer
Workaround found, but bug remains:
I used my Windows box IP address instead of Browsing for the printer. This
permitted me to go to the next steps and created a printer, although it didn't
work, i.e. the test page didn't print. However, I then clicked a change URI
button and it presented another opportunity to Browse. This time browsing
found the Windows printer, correctly changed the path and then the test page
printed. Screen snapshot is attached.

[Bug 370542] Re: Accessing http://localhost gives a 403 Forbidden when using apache allow localhost directive

2009-05-03 Thread papukaija
@Andreas: Before editing /etc/apache2/sites-avaible/default the apache

NetworkManager. I will now test the Allow from all-option.

As Martin said, http://127.0.0.1 is working.

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make

not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you
are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are
having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if
you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see

2009-05-03 Thread Micah Gersten
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you
are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are
having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if
you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see

[Bug 371095] Re: Intel Video completely unusable in Jaunty

2009-05-03 Thread Eddie Padilla
I may be way off here, but have you tried reverting the Xorg intel
driver in jaunty? You can try it on the live cd so that you dont have to
reinstall twice if it doesnt work. I had the same problem and fixed it
on the liveCD first to make sure that it would be usable before i went
ahead and did a fresh install.

Here's the link
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReinhardTartler/X/RevertingIntelDriverTo2.4

After you install it just log out and let the liveCD log back in (10
second autologin) and you should be able to tell if the problem was
fixed or not.

@Uwe,
how often do people look at the title bar? NEVER
i hardly ever notice it...
people usually notice the content of the window, not the titlebar.

so it wouldnt serve the purpose of being noticed would it? even if it
was in a different color the chances are that it would never get noticed.

and a scrolling/animated ticker would be distracting/irritating...

[Bug 371124] [NEW] gstreamer0.10-pitfdll is unusable for wma playback

2009-05-03 Thread Ilya
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gstreamer0.10-pitfdll

Ubuntu release is 9.04 (Xubuntu edition)

To listen Windows Media Audio with Totem-gstreamer I installed
gstreamer0.10-pitfdll,
then copied wma9dmod.dll, wmv9dmod.dll, wmadmod.dll, wmvdmod.dll to
/usr/lib/codecs and created symlink to /usr/lib/win32.
This doesn't work.
ALSO instruction from usr/share/doc/gstreamer0.10-pitfdll/README is wrong -
there is no gst-register in the package or any other (at least I couldn' t find
it).
gst-inspect pitfdll command gives only dmodec_wmv9dmodv3: DMO wmv9dmod decoder

[Bug 371000] Re: Not possible to nicely upgrade from old dist

** Description changed:

404 Not Found [IP: 130.239.18.173 80]

I searched the web for a reasonable way to update from feisty to jaunty but
didn't find any
The only reasonable way I could do it was to edit /etc/apt/sources.list as
  s/feisty/hardy/g
- which is completely unacceptable, it is like Canonical would have been
purchased by Microsoft just to kill it.
+ which is consider only doable for computer geeks.

- You should not need to be a PhD in computer science to updated your system,
then even XP is better.
- I have been very disappointed by debian's update path earlier, as suddenly
your system is obsolete,
- it should always be easy to upgrade, otherwise we are lost.

Maybe a hardware incompatibility???

[Bug 371128] [NEW] rhythmbox/gnome-app-install keeps searching for suitable plugin

2009-05-03 Thread Wouter den Haan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-app-install

After starting rhythmbox, it loads my music collection and finds that it
does not have the necessary plugin to play some files. It then tries to
download a suitable plugin. So far so good.

The suitable plugin is however not found and after clicking 'cancel' the
same window pops up again when rhythmbox stumbles upon the next file it
cannot play. And again, and again..

I think some mechanism should be included to prevent this dialog from
opening up more then once for a given type of music files (audio/x-wma
in this case).

I'm using jaunty. With gnome-app-install: 0.5.24-0ubuntu1

[Bug 348731] Re: 2.6.28-11:ext4:hald:sys_open:security_file_alloc - cascade of 'bugs' - CPU stopped

Just a note: I've been using 2.6.30.rc3 from the weekly builds for over
a week now on both my PCs and haven't had a repeat of any kernel
freezes.

I tried 2.6.30.rc4 but the kernel oopses on X startup due to a bug in
the bluetooth module, and this kills enough processes that X doesn't run
properly.

[Bug 203782] Re: Support low color depth to improve speed

2009-05-03 Thread Rocko
I agree: xvnc4viewer is my viewer of preference - it even auto-detects
link speeds and adjusts colour depth accordingly. All it lacks is a GUI
interface that stores addresses and passwords within the Gnome
environment. vinagre does the GUI part nicely - all it lacks is a usable
mode for anything but very fast connections.

2009-05-03 Thread Micah Gersten
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. This bug did not the proper package associated with it, which is
important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can
learn more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this bug as a
bug in openoffice.org.
For future reference you might be interested to know that a lot of applications

[Bug 354378] Re: Deadlock when PAM_TEXT_INFO is used

2009-05-03 Thread cdmdotnet
Hi Steve

I've got no problems doing some testing.

I've fixed the problem I had, but it's not hard to reproduce the situation I
had before.
In saying that fixing the notification message for the fingerprint reader
software brings up another prompt - a notification message is raised requesting
a finger be scanned before the authentication is complete ( the package makes
the finger print additional to the username / password, and not a replacement )
, so the patch will be interesting to see in action.

Thanks a lot for the fast answer,

We are preparing an updated package with version 2.0b3. As in previous

sources make it a non-free document according to our guidelines. It
would be much appreciated if your next release could contain the LaTeX

[Bug 371129] [NEW] cups-pdf incompatible with .Private ecryptfs-encrypted homedir

2009-05-03 Thread Cristóbal M . Palmer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cups-pdf

Possibly an apparmor problem related to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/359338 ?

System:

$ lsb_release -rc
Release:9.04
Codename: jaunty
$ uname -srvmo
Linux 2.6.28-11-generic #42-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 17 01:58:03 UTC 2009 x86_64
GNU/Linux
$ dpkg -l cups-pdf|grep ^ii
ii cups-pdf 2.5.0-1ubuntu1
PDF printer for CUPS

Expected outcome:

After adding cups-pdf, user with encrypted ~ should be able to use the
newly-generated PDF printer and find files generated in ~/PDF. Failing
that, the user should get clear feedback that printing to a PDF file
failed.

Observed outcome:

If no ~/PDF directory exists, nothing happens from the user perspective.
The user prints (eg. an OpenOffice.org document) and there is no
feedback. If ~/PDF directory is created by the user, there will be a
notification that the job has completed, but no file will have been
written to ~/PDF, which is arguably worse.

In /var/log/syslog:

May 3 02:42:20 [hostname redacted] kernel: [41865.738103] type=1503
audit(1241332940.041:21): operation=inode_create requested_mask=a::
denied_mask=a:: fsuid=1000 name=/home/[username
redacted]/.Private/ECRYPTFS_FNEK_ENCRYPTED.FW[...redacted...]---/ECRYPTFS_FNEK_ENCRYPTED.FX[...redacted...]-AZ3UEsMSklVu4z1jyDhs-
pid=16397 profile=/usr/lib/cups/backend/cups-pdf

In /var/log/cups/cups-pdf_log (if no ~/PDF exists):
Sun May 3 02:31:06 2009 [ERROR] failed to create directory
(/home/[redacted]/PDF)
Sun May 3 02:31:06 2009 [ERROR] failed to create user output directory
(/home/[redacted]/PDF)

And if ~/PDF exists:
Sun May 3 02:33:40 2009 [ERROR] failed to set file mode for PDF file (non
fatal) (/home/[redacted]/PDF/[redacted].pdf)

Workaround:
Set 'Out /var/tmp/PDF' or similar in /etc/cups/cups-pdf.conf and restart cups
with 'sudo service cups restart'

Ideal fix:
Fresh install of cups-pdf would set /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.cupsd (or another
file?) properly to avoid this issue. I've tried playing with that file to no
avail perhaps barking up the wrong tree or simply inept when it comes to
apparmor.

2009-05-03 Thread Micah Gersten
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description
didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read How
to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

Hi!

For completeness:
I got the problem by update from 8.10 to 9.04. The screen became black for less
than a second, randomly. No relation to graphics or cpu load identifiable.

System: Intel 32bit
CPU: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.20GHz stepping 01
Card: ATI Sapphire X1550, 256MB
Monitor: NEC Multisync LCD2690WUXi with resolution 1920x1200 at 60Hz connected

01:00.1 Display controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV516 [Radeon X1300/X1550

Since installation of package xserver-video-radeonhd and restart of the
machine everything is fine, but it seems to be slower (in showing
videos).

Hope it helps

[Bug 371131] Re: Wrong corner resize cursor in dmz white mouse cursor theme, KDE4

2009-05-03 Thread Victor
Couldn't make screenshot - it doesn't capture mouse cursor. Under GNOME it
shows different cursors for window corners.
Under KDE DMZ White for right bottom corner shows this kind of cursor: two
arrows, one towards left bottom corner and onother one towards right top
corner. While other kde mouse themes show these pointers in other directions.

[Bug 328575] Re: Cannot start gnome-terminal because of gconf error

2009-05-03 Thread Olivier Sessink
The problem is that there is no session-dbus. The following lines of
shell code start a session dbus, start gconfd and start the gnome-
terminal

#!/bin/sh
eval 'dbus-launch --sh-syntax --exit-with-session'
/usr/lib/libgconf2-4/gconfd-2
gnome-terminal

add it to a script, and start the script.

[Bug 364444] Re: problem with netgear WG311v3 wireless card

2009-05-03 Thread Artur Szymanski
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it as it looks like you
already asked a question on the tracker (see
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/68291) and your problem
has been solved. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but it
would make more sense to raise problems you are having in the support
tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are uncertain if
they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 362133] Re: many NULL pointer derefences, random hangs, segfaults

2009-05-03 Thread Aaron Roydhouse
Since upgrading to jaunty 9.04 on a Lenovo X301 with Intel i915 graphics
I am having kernel oops where the screen display, mouse pointer and
keyboard lock-up. Everything else operates (that I can see via network
interface), but no keyboard combinations cause any reaction. Below is
the relevant /var/log/messages section. Is this related to this bug?
