I wrote a startup script that handles this at boot time. There is not a lot of
documentation that I can find on this, aside from man. So yea I warn you this
is not likely the way to run an action at boot time, more like a service. But
it works for me.

I had the same problem on Ubuntu 9.10 when both VLC and Amarok were open
at the same time. Whichever one was opened first would be able to play
sound, and the other one would not. I went into both Amarok and KDE4
systemsettings and changed every sound output preference to prefer
PulseAudio above

I clicked on an internal link on the cbc.ca/news website and my display

I'm also having same problem with my Acer Aspire 110L, if you unplug the
power the screen dims, but power manager doesn't detect it. Also if you
plug in the power when battery is less than 100% then disconnect a few
