My solution was to modify /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf and add the
following line:
options snd-hda-intel model=laptop-eapd enable=1 index=0
Reboot, and with any luck you'll be welcomed with the Ubuntu sounds! I
have tried this on 8.10 -> 1

Looks like my confirmation has triggered some attention;-)
As far as I can tell autofs5 in Lucid seems to work when restarting the
autofs dameon. Just reloading is not enough. But I guess that's a minor
issue.
@Jesper: As Lucid will be the next LTS, it kind of supersedes all other
distributions.

i can't download any of my downloads from queue
and i see logs, where i find messages "Piece ###, which was just downloaded,
failed its checksum test"
maybe http://trac.transmissionbt.com/ticket/2858 is the similar bug
and i think this bug

Hi again,
I've upgraded to 10.04 to see if this fixes the problem - it does not.
I have worked around it by adding the following to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-
base.conf:
options snd-hda-intel model=laptop-eapd enable=1 index=0
I'll submit the "apport-collect -p alsa-base 296251" now as well.
