Since trying that fix, I now can't use alsa as an input anymore. Removing
the linux-backports-modules-alsa-lucid-generic package didn't help either.
Now I'm stuck with using OSS for these programs again! Any other ideas?

Hi Brice,
I have this bug on ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Linx, i bought a serial to usb
adaptator for try to connect the tablet artpad2 in usb.
it don't work, i have changed : /etc/X11/xorg.conf (/dev/ttyS0 to /dev/ttyUSB0)
i have this message in Xorg.0.log
(**) Option Device /dev/ttyUSB0

This message appeares in the log files at boot up of a Ubuntu 10.04
system.
The file in question is a link to the empty file /etc/udev/user.rules,
editing this file and adding a single comment # seems to remove this
