[Bug 160311] Re: Resizing windows by grabbing window borders is difficult

2010-06-20 Thread The Fiddler
I wouldn't call a thicker border less beautiful. In fact, I have tried
increasing the border size in the Ambiance theme and quite like the
result from both an aesthetic and a usability standpoint. (The only
downside is a minor artifact around the menus, but I'm sure an official
solution would be able to solve this).

Was this discussed in Ubuntu Developer Summit last month? Was a decision
reached? Can we expect a fix for Lynx or should we just use a different
theme?

Come on guys, the silence is deafening!

+ I'm trying to use crontabs to change my current playlist in Audacious,

+ music I drift off to sleep listening to.

audtool completely fails to work when not run from an xconsole inside
the same X session as Audacious.

When run from a standard console, I get:

I assume this is the same thing that happens when audtool is run from a
crontab. The command gives no output to standard or error outputs, and I can
see nothing in the system logs.

Running this same command from an xconsole returns the currently playing
song's name, using the current song name format as shown in the playlist

I used to use XMMS, which handled this exact case perfectly. (Though by

in the system. Should I remove them and start again with updating? Where
those packages reside?

I am new with Ubuntu and do not know where the downloaded packages for

trying to remove them and downloaded them again. O, is it a better

[Bug 585263] Re: MythTV playback issue - number of reference frames exceeds max

2010-06-20 Thread Andrew Stevens
Further investigations revealed that the same stream parsing error and hence
frame-discards/ stutters also
with non-VDPAU playback profiles. I'm beginning to wonder if the upgrade
wasn't quite clean on my machine.

The issue is so obvious visually I can't believe there aren't hordes of
outraged german HD World-cup watchers complaining.

I'll investigage further when I can boot back into 10.04 (its a
'production' system ;-) ).

[Bug 533017] Re: Gwibber doesn't refresh streams (unsupported locale/language error not handled)

2010-06-20 Thread mehul
The solution provided by #25 does work.
After some digging around I found that the problem lies somewhere in the
function parsetime in
/usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/gwibber/microblog/util/__init__.py

def parsetime(t):
  loc = locale.getlocale(locale.LC_TIME)
  locale.setlocale(locale.LC_TIME, 'C')
  result = mx.DateTime.Parser.DateTimeFromString(t)
  locale.setlocale(locale.LC_TIME, loc)
  return result.ticks()

In my case the locale was set to en_IN
locale.setlocale(locale.LC_TIME,loc)
throws an error

/usr/lib/python2.6/locale.pyc in setlocale(category, locale)
511 # convert to string

512 locale = normalize(_build_localename(locale))
-- 513 return _setlocale(category, locale)
514
515 def resetlocale(category=LC_ALL):

Error: unsupported locale setting

But when locale is set to en_US.utf8 it works properly.

If the vm is running a 2.6.18, then the upgrade will fail as it will on
any non-vms. The reason xen was mentioned is that many dom0's run 2.6.18
and many domU's run the dom0's kernel, so this issue is relevant to both
dom0 as well as domU upgrades.

[Bug 596484] [NEW] Wrong Doc Path

2010-06-20 Thread eMerzh
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: sqliteman

Here is the forward of a mail from the original developper of sqliteman

hi,

I'm author of the Sqliteman software. One of its user reported a bug related
to ubuntu package:
http://bugtracker.sqliteman.com/view.php?id=161

Unfortunately I don't think it's a bug in my code, but in a patch file in the
ubuntu package:

http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-
branches/ubuntu/maverick/sqliteman/maverick/annotate/head:/debian/patches/01_docdir.patch

the patch file line:
+ SET (DOC_DIR ${CMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX}/share/doc/sqliteman)
should be:
+ SET (DOC_DIR ${CMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX}/share/doc/sqliteman/)
propably.

Let me know if I made wrong conclusion - I don't understand *buntu world too
much. Maybe it's related to debian (too)?

all the best,

I followed the instructions in the post #190 of the previous bug, installing

to about 130Mb/s in my case) and WPA/WPA2 authentication (as I reported in

[Bug 584551] Re: Eclipse crashes randomly with JRE error

2010-06-20 Thread Wolfgang Glas
This is not an issue with xulrunner-1.9.[13], because as per the
attached Dependencies.txt, Dan has xulrunner-1.9.2 installed.

This issue is affeting me here on lucid/amd64, too. It suspectedly
appeared after updating to linux-2.6.32-23 from lucid-proposed.

I will just reboot to linux-2.6.32-22 and tell, whether the kernel
update is really the culprit here...

[Bug 573516] Re: Xfce Crashes When Choosing Theme Wildbush

2010-06-20 Thread Nikola M
I just wonder how in the world changing WM theme can kill even Wm
itself, not to mention, whole X?? are not ther some architectural
checkings in place to stop such things from happening?

I was changing WM themes Xubuntu (10.04 64-bit) - and puff. X died and was
logged out. (and all apps died of course)
After that was not able to log in and was logged out every time (I suppose
because there was still ¨Wildbush¨ inside
 ~.config/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/xfwm4.xml

Also xfapplet (one that is used to start Gnome applets inside xfce) was
using 100 percent cpu time after X died, it survived logging out (?)

I edited xfwm4.xml with ¨Albatross¨ in it (thanks mr_pouit, ) and now being
able to log in.
I wonder how many themes for Xfce kills X theese days. and how they manage to
do that..

[Bug 588375] Re: Random Wireless Disconnects

2010-06-20 Thread RedCitrus
Hi. I've got exactly the same problem, but I don't think this is limited to
Ubuntu. I'm running 10.04 now, but had the RC of Windows 7 running previously,
and that had the same issues...as you point out, it seems to occur mainly
(although not exclusively) when large files are being transferred.
We have two Aspire Ones in the house, the other machine has the original custom
OS installed, and doesn't seem to suffer from this problem, so wondering if
it's an issue with a proprietary driver or something?

[Bug 446717] Re: [gm45] Adjusting Brightness in Acer Aspire Timelines causes system freeze in 4810T and 5810T models

2010-06-20 Thread Attilio
Hi everyone, I have an Acer 4810TG which is affected by this bug. I have 3 OSs
installed: Windows 7 64bit, Ubuntu 10.4 32bit and Fedora 13 64bit (KDE only),
and the bios version is 1.35 (released April 22nd).
The new bios didn't make any difference for me, otherwise here is what i could
observe:
-on W7, the brightness hotkeys do work, but not very accurately: i can
apparently set 10 different levels, but the lower three have the same
brightness, so that the last 2 keypresses when decreasing, and 2 when
increasing it cause no effect at all; furthermore i have no OSD feedback. These
glitches could be sign of poor support to W7 from Acer, I had Vista
preinstalled.
- On Ubuntu with the given workaround (nomodeset apci_backlight=vendor) the
controls work very well, ~20 levels with the nice OSD. Unfortunately this
cannot be done in F13, which requires KMS on intel cards.
- On Ubuntu and Fedora with desktop effects disabled, and default kernel
arguments (except i8042.nomux, needed for a touchpad bug), thus with KMS
enabled, i have a behavior similar to W7, but with even more inaccurate
control: the number of levels is not fixed, and i get an OSD which, at least on
Fedora, shows incorrect values. What's more interesting is that as soon as i
reactivate compositing everything freezes. In Ubuntu the only way to recover
control is to forcibly shut down the notebook, whilst in fedora i can restart
the X server (with ctrl+alt+back) but only start new sessions without
compositing, if i login to a user having it enabled i get stuck at the loading
splashscreen.
An interesting fact is that ANY OPENGL ACTIVITY seems to trigger the bug, not
only enabling desktop compositing but also starting glxgears for example
causes me a system freeze, although not always immediately.

I think this bug is not in compiz, but in kernel modesetting instead!
Unluckily I currently don't have the time to do much further testing,
such as some with the Radeon discrete GPU (i got some freezes with that
to, anyway).

[Bug 380293] Re: Ienovo X200 power consumption - power top

2010-06-20 Thread Mike
No, stopping irqbalance does not help.
Here is screenshot of powertop on near-idle system (Transmission have tiny
network upload, ~10-20Kb/s)

Huge amount of [Rescheduling interrupts] kernel IPI and [kernel
scheduler] Load balancing tick appears in later kernels, since 2.6.22
AFAIK
