This bug is due to the fact that the recent gnome-shell_2.31.2-1ubuntu1 (and
perhaps also mutter of version 2.31.2-3ubuntu3) requires ClutterJson.typelib.
The new gir1.0-clutter-1.0_1.2.12-0ubuntu2 doesn't ship ClutterJson-1.0.typelib
anymore (version 1.2.12-0ubuntu1 did).
So as a workaround,

Confirmed on maverick, this is a problem with /etc/init/smbd.conf using
start on local-filesystems
I have not tested this, but one work around may be to change this to
start on started rc
which will cause smbd to come up after all of the traditional init.d
scripts have been started.

Would like to add a comment.
On our Samsung R530 Laptops (Our company purchased 2 a few months ago),
we experience wavy output on the external VGA interface. The internal
LCD monitor of the laptop is perfect.

I have linked a branch that fixes this and makes it the same size as the
ubuntu icon. I have also tweaked the dimensions and position *slightly*
so that they are integers - this means they will look clearer when
I grepped through the logs of the linked branch and see no mention of
this bug number, or the word order. There are a bunch of references to
notifications but none seem relevant. How odd.
I also nominated this bug as a papercut as it seems like a great
candidate!

I found out additional details: Occassionally it was TV1 recognized to
be active even if I was completely unplugged from external monitors and
docking station (I could see this by wide desktop icons below and moving
the mouse completely out of sight on the right side was possible).

This problem also occured with a 10.04 release, run from CD. I did not
fully install yet, because the moment my Ubuntu works, I'll wipe 'that
other OS' from my laptop and start afresh with an Ubuntu only laptop.

Disabling irqbalance doesn't work for me.

About half of the time the display freezes on boot. It is just before
playing the welcome sound. It can also happen that it boots and then
there is a popping noise in speakers which does not stop.
