[Bug 614731] [NEW] shutdown hangs with wlan autofs/nfs mounted homedirs

2010-08-07 Thread Sam Liddicott
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: autofs5

I have nfs4 home directories mounted with autofs.

If i boot-up and shutdown, everything is fine.

If I login for a graphical session and then choose shutdown from a gnome
menu, then the shutdown hangs - with tasks like gnome-screensaver and
other personal tasks hanging as well as system tasks like flush and
sync.

The text console reports that these tasks have been hanging for more
than 120 seconds.

I have seen /etc/init.d/networking that it tries not to shutdown network
interfaces if there are network mounted file systems, and debugging that
I've added to /etc/init.d/network and I am sure that it is not running.

I'm wondering if wpa_supplicant is being killed or something; or maybe
the file system is being un-mounted before the applications have
finished with it,

If I un-mount all the mounted home directories before shutting down then
there are no problems.

I'm willing to do any amount of debug, but I'm not too hot on debugging
upstart

[Bug 614825] [NEW] upstart fails to start mysql in mysql-server-core-5.1.41-3ubuntu12.6, downgrading fixed

2010-08-07 Thread Bitterjug
Public bug reported:

Yesterday we got mysql-server-core-5.1.41-3ubuntu12.6 in the daily update.
I noticed MythTV not working properly.
% $ status mysql gave stop/waiting and sudo start mysql gave something
like restart failed on the command line, though in fact it the daemon would
start. I had a look at the release notes for this package and found some
changes to apparmour and other stuff relating to the upstart script, after
trying to figure it out I downgraded to mysql-server-core-5.1.41-3ubuntu12.3,
which is what I had yesterday, and its working again.

I'm attaching log files. We got the upgrade on 6 aug and I downgraded at
about 20:00 today (7 august). Hope this helps.

[Bug 613309] Re: upstart scripts do not wait for 'cloud-config' status

2010-08-07 Thread Pete Crossley
Ok Scott, yup I was seeing two issues but after I fixed my metadata
issue in UEC you are correct. The main problem I am having is that the
user scripts run while apt-get is installing packages that are used in
my user run script.

So I will update the bug to reflect the following:

** Please have the upstart/cloud-run-user-script.conf what for a status
after the other cloud-init processes have completed. This will allow
users to configure/execute programs that were installed during the
cloud-init process.

Thanks for taking your time to understand my issue, also allowing me to work
through my miss-configuration.

** Summary changed:

- upstart scripts do not wait for 'cloud-config' status
+ cloud-run-user-script.conf upstart script needs to run after all other
cloud-init processes

** Patch removed: This is the upstart scripts that I had to use to make this
functional.

[Bug 614664] [NEW] Guake preferences dialog too large for netbook screens

The Guake preferences dialog is too tall for 1024x600 netbook screens,
the close button is chopped off and the window cannot be resized.

Removing the unnecessary Guake properties banner and fixing the height
of the first two checkbox options should be enough, but additional

[Bug 614668] [NEW] Message The disk drive for ... is not ready yet is NOT displayed following upgrade to2.6.32-24-generic-pae kernel

2010-08-07 Thread Dave Hay
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mountall

This is similar but not identical to #571444.

I have the following entry in /etc/fstab: -

/dev/sdb2 /home/hayd/lenovo hfsplus
rw,auto,exec,user

relating to an external USB drive.

During boot-up of the previous 2.6.32-23-generic-pae kernel, I am
prompted with the following message: -

The disk drive for /home/hayd/lenovo is not ready yet or not present
Continue to wait; or press S to skip mounting or M for manual recovery

which is precisely as one would expect.

However, following a recent upgrade to 2.6.32-24-generic-pae, this
message is no longer displayed; instead, I am presented with a
completely blank screen.

Having used the GRUB2 menu ( via the [Shift] key ) to boot back to the
-23 kernel, I realised (a) what the problem is and (b) how to overcome
it - by pressing the [S] key to skip the auto-mount.

Therefore, I'm now able to boot -24 and get past the exception, by
hitting [S], but the message should be displayed in clear text.

It's my view that this is a bug introduced by the kernel update.

Hardware

Lenovo Thinkpad W500 ( 4061-BL5 )
AMD/ATI Radeo graphics ( via i915 open-source driver )
Gnome 2.30.02

OS

Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS

[Bug 576724] Re: Ubuntu Lucid grub2 dist-upgrades result in confusion

2010-08-07 Thread bcbc
@Erick, sorry can't help you with your wubi problem. It's always just
worked for me - on a variety of machines. While I can and do pass on
known fixes to others, I haven't come across a known fix or workaround
to your issue. I suppose you could install 9.10 wubi and upgrade to
10.04. It's a pain, but should work. Don't forget about the 9,10 wubildr
bug.

[Bug 614670] [NEW] suspend/resume garbles ATI Radeon screen (but not screenshots)

2010-08-07 Thread jimav
Public bug reported:

Suspend/resume garbles the screen (both X and VTs) by consistently
shifting pixels, producing a wierd emboldening effect and color shadows.

Using AT Radeon graphics card and large (1920 x 1280) monitor, with the
standard FREE driver (not fglrx).

Taking a screen-shot produces an unaffected image (does not exhibit the
corruption). So the bug may have to do with some rendering settings in
the hardware, rather than actually corrupted display memory (just
speculation). The problem never occurs after a normal boot, only after
resume.

The problem does not always occur (but usually does). So it there may
be some memory or hw register not being initialized.

I will attach cellphone photos showing the corrupted screen (as
mentioned above, a screenshot does not show the problem).

Note: This is an old problem. In Ubuntu 9.10 I used fglrx and the
problem would occur somewhat less frequently, and when it did the VTs
were not affected, and switching to a VT and back to X fixed the
corruption. But int 10.04 VTs are affected also and switching does not
help.

[Bug 444950] Re: sound stops working with pulseaudio

2010-08-07 Thread Andreas Wettergren
Disregard my comments above, it seems like my problem is slightly
different. I downgraded to 2.6.31-14-generic from karmic and now have a
lot less trouble. There is still a glitch now and then, and i still get
similar log messages when e.g. watching a movie. However the whole
system is now a lot more stable, no freezes and audio/video is useable
again. I tried a lot of different (official and unofficial) kernels from
lucid/maverick, but none of them performs as well as this one.

PS I'm curious what 2.6.36 might bring, i peeked at LKML and there seems
to be lots of changes for hda-intel. Crossing my fingers for a final
fix.

[Bug 588007] Re: Once selected interface, if Hosts List is open and click on Scan for hosts Ettercap crash

2010-08-07 Thread JKL
The software doesn't use GTK locking properly, and it doesn't appear to
be maintained upstream (last release 2005). Here is my initial effort
at a patch (minimally tested). It fixes this bug, but it is possible
that it may introduce new bugs due to lock contention (i.e. calling
gdk_threads_enter() twice). The patch is against the Ubuntu bzr
sources, and it was generated using bzr diff.

In order for the patch to be correct, I need to prove that
gdk_threads_enter() gets called exactly once before each group of
GTK/GDK operations, and gdk_threads_leave() gets called exactly once
after. So far that hasn't been especially easy to prove, because there
are a lot of different threads. Also there is a whole UI abstraction
layer to deal with due to the dual GTK/ncurses frontends.

** Patch added: add GTK locking to key UI functions called by threads
(minimally tested)

[Bug 488136] Re: iHome mouse hangs in Karmic

2010-08-07 Thread Scott Ritchie
Thank you for reporting!

I bought one of these mice (Lucid) recently and came across an issue
like this, but the mouse would resume shortly after it hung (choppy
was a better description)

I experimented a bit and moving the mouse really close to the sensor
(even though it claims to work across the room) seemed to help a bit.

This forum thread recommends disabling the trackpad on the laptop: can
you confirm if that is any help?

Works with it_IT.utf8 too.

** Description changed:

- But 8.10 when I plug in my camera, Nautilus mounts it via gphoto2 vfs

complain that it can't grab the device.

I can't find any way to tell Nautilus not to mount the camera. I tried
setting the File Management Preferences for Photos to do nothing but
it still does the something of mounting it.

The only workaround I've found is to open up nautilus, unmount the
camera and then run gthumb --import-photos from the command line.

I don't know if this is a bug in hal, nautilus, or gnome-volume-manager.
It's probably not a gthumb bug per se but I'm not sure where to file it
  really.

  SRU TEST CASE:
- * Install gthumb, plug in a gphoto camera. Choose gThumb in the dialog
about what to do with the device.
- * intrepid final: gthumb opens main window and selecting File - Import
Photos fails with a device access error.
- * with proposed fix: gthumb opens import dialog, device access works.
+  * Install gthumb, plug in a gphoto camera. Choose gThumb in the dialog
about what to do with the device.

[Bug 614673] [NEW] All instances of currently playing song are bolded in playlist

2010-08-07 Thread Mike.lifeguard
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: exaile

If you add a song multiple times to a playlist, they all get bolded when
one of them is playing. The green triangle only displays for one of
them, however, so this is just a logic error somewhere. We know what's
playing, we just display it wrong.

Re: [Bug 603746] Re: the word 加入 in group managment should be 新增

2010-08-07 Thread Cheng-Chia Tseng
The main problem is actullay that the user think the add button here means
to add a group for the user but not add a group for the group list.

I think there is no way to avoid confusion whether we translators translate
add to some words mean add or not. But do you guys have any idea to
avoid that kind of confusion (no matter by design or by more clear
tooltips)?

[Bug 614674] [NEW] Candidate revision devscripts 2.10.66ubuntu1

2010-08-07 Thread Ahmed El-Mahmoudy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: devscripts

Note: this is blocked by the po4a sync request (LP: #614669)

devscripts (2.10.66ubuntu1) maverick; urgency=low

  * Merge from Debian unstable; remaining changes:
- Demote Recommends to Suggests:
+ libcrypt-ssleay-perl: only needed for a corner case (uscan on SSL
download sites), wasn't installed by default in previous releases
either, and seems quite dead upstream; universe only.
+ libsoap-lite-perl: only needed for one less common command (select)
for bts, which isn't useful for Ubuntu itself, and pulls in a lot of
other universe Perl libraries; universe only.
+ debian-{keyring,maintainers}: not useful enough in Ubuntu; universe
only.
+ equivs: too much of a hack to install by default; universe only.
  + libyaml-syck-perl: transition-check is fairly Debian-specific.
- scripts/debchange.{pl,1}:
+ Adjust --security template for Ubuntu.
+ Add -U/--upstream flag that forces original just increment
the end behaviour; Ubuntu is upstream for some pieces of software.
  + Add --distributor= to override lsb_release output.
+ Default to maverick as distribution.
+ Add ubuntu1 to version string for new versions, with tweaks for
special cases.
  + Add -R/--rebuild flag for Ubuntu's no-change rebuilds.
+ Don't use the last distribution in debian/changelog when doing
dch -r on Ubuntu. Just because it was last uploaded to jaunty
doesn't mean that's the right thing to do now. Thanks to Colin
Watson. (LP: #429288)
- scripts/debcommit.pl: support commiting to bzr from debian/.
- scripts/debsign.{sh,1}: Implement DEBSIGN_ALWAYS_RESIGN variable to skip
the Would you like to use the current signature? question. (Debian
  #447955)
- scripts/debuild.pl: Enforce Ubuntu merge policy.
- scripts/dscverify.pl: Add Ubuntu keyrings.
- scripts/rmadison.pl: Change default URL parameter to ubuntu.
- Add test/debchange.pl, test/Makefile: debchange test suite; call it
during build in debian/rules. Also add lsb-release build dependency for
this, so that debchange uses Ubuntu mode.

[Bug 393138] Re: contact list oddities with xmonad

2010-08-07 Thread Rodney Lorrimar
Hi,

xmonad ignores gtk_window_iconify(). I suppose it has no concept of
minimized wndows, unless you program it to handle them.

The gtk docs note that you shouldn't assume the window is definitely
iconified afterward. So to take care of this case, add a
gtk_widget_hide() to empathy_window_iconify().

Please see attached patch for empathy 2.30.2. I have tested it in xmonad
and metacity. Only problem is that it disables the minimize animation.

Cheers,

Rodney

[Bug 614677] [NEW] Removing all tracks from a playlist is very slow when the playlist is large

2010-08-07 Thread Mike.lifeguard
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: exaile

When you have a playlist with many songs (your whole library, perhaps),
the context menu doesn't have 'clear all' (or whatever), since anywhere
you click in the playlist area is a context menu for /that song/ instead
of for the playlist. That's bad, a per-song context menu should have
that option too - there isn't any 'background' to click on when the area
is full of songs. So, you CTRL+A and select 'remove' from the context
menu. The application appears to freeze for over a minute while the
operation is processed. I don't know if a 'clear all' operation would be
more efficient or not. If so, check whether all songs are selected and
use the more efficient operation if so. In any event, the efficiency of
large remove operations should be improved (if you select all but one,
it should still be fast).

[Bug 252140] Re: [needs-packaging] Ubuntu Tweak

2010-08-07 Thread Jamie Strandboge
I'm rejecting this for Maverick. Here is the email I sent to the
uploader and ubuntu-archive:

I'm sorry but I am rejecting this package for now. First, there are
several spelling and grammar errors in debian/control and the manpages.

More importantly, with a name like 'ubuntu-tweak' it sounds like this is
an official package, but there doesn't seem to be an actual approval
from someone within Ubuntu (eg MOTU) in LP: #252140[1] or REVU[2].

I'm also uncomfortable with a package from the Ubuntu archive adding
unofficial apt repositories without a formal review. Please take this up
in the bug and once you have approval for upload, feel free to upload
again.

Thanks
