I've noticed ssb causing conflicts in other bugs too. A quick search
shows it's not a new issue, but has been causing people grief for
several years. The best workaround I have found (untested) is this

Just to clarify, the desired behaviour is to install the boot loader
onto the MBR of the target disk the installation is being made to, not
to avoid installing a boot loader at all.
The option was there in previous releases (under the advanced
options), what was the rational to remove it?

If you press a key when you see the keyboard = accessibility icon
flash on the screen, that should bring you to the CD boot menu. Select
a language and then press F6. Select the nomodeset option and press
enter. Does this get you any further in the boot process?

I agree with this. I have a whole 1400px between the window title and
the indicators. Plenty of room for any toolbar, especially true since
the system tray has been banned.

If alsactl restore shouldn't be used in combination with alsaucm, it'd make
more sense to combine the alsactl restore and alsaucm calls into the same udev
file, calling one or the other depending on the hardware.

I have an amd64 version of Lucid running squid as a reverse cache. It
crashed today with a SIGABRT after logging several variants of
'storeLocateVaryRead: Unexpected data'. An except of cache.log will be
attached to this bug.
