Adding a small delay (in my case 2 secs) in a setfont wrapper script
makes the problem go away for KMS clients too.
Also, in /lib/udev/console-setup-tty and in /lib/udev/rules.d/85
-console-setup some comments indicate that there are known race
conditions, maybe this bug is caused by them.

@David, I tested both without and with headphones plugged in and got no
sounds in either. There were activity on the microphone input, but I
wasn't able to demonstrate to myself that the activity was due to input
from the mic (I made some sounds which didn't seem to register in any

down to random guessing (trying GPIOs, changing pin configs etc)...

Hello,
I tested the microphone through input streaming to another computer and it
seamed to record but with a crap sound (lot of noise around) ...
Concerning my installation, output sound never worked through headphones or
not.

@David, regarding still silent, in my case it was always silent,
headphones or not. Does anybody have the bug id's for related bugs to
the newer Sandy Bridge Acer Aspire TimelineX series (unstable wifi and
brightness/backlight not being adjustable)?

I ran into the same issue since I have to run nvidia dev drivers which
conflict with nvidia-current. Fortunately I caught it before rebooting
so it didn't break my video subsystem. However, this is a critical
issue.

I can't reproduce the crash but if emacs is started as 'emacs23' instead of
emacs then the overlay scrollbars are enabled and doesn't work. So emacs23 and
emacs23-x should be blacklisted as well.

One more thing to note: unless the dependency is removed entirely or a
reasonable workaround is instituted (rebuilding the package is not
really a reasonable workaround), requiring either the standard ATI or
nvidia packages is unacceptable as the nvidia cuda dev drivers do not
come as an ubuntu
Installing dconf-tools solves the problem for me as well on 10.10
(Maverick). Thanks Harald.
