Yes, I've been using Oneiric since it was in Beta, and it still had some of
these issues. When I was using Unity + Compiz, I would still get some of
the stuttering and tearing. But now that I've switched to Gnome-Shell +
Mutter, things have been working great. So I think the bugs lie with
Compiz,
As pointed out by upstream, this is an issue with the original Debian
code for console-setup, so I filed a bug at Debian and linked this bug
to it.

than ubuntu-core-dev? That said, it's an organisational bug for

Bryce, I haven't upgraded (yet) past natty, but I don't think the fix is
worth backporting... As mentioned in a prior comment, building debs from
the catalyst driver downloaded directly from ATI fixed the problem
months ago and I haven't had to worry since. I am not sure what status
that leaves
I updated to Ubuntu 11.10 and changed my laptop to one with ATI video
card. I cannot reproduce the error anymore.
