[Bug 903602] [NEW] CIFS automount with nounix option create empty directories
Public bug reported: Hi, I'm trying to mount two CIFS shares from my Verbatim NAS. Because of permission problem, I need to use the nounix option when I mount them. If I do that with the command: sudo mount.cifs //X.X.X.X/media /mnt/media/ -o credentials=/etc/samba/credentials,iocharset=utf8,uid=1000,gid=100,dir_mode=0775,file_mode=0775,nounix everything works well. If I write the same command in my auto.home file: media -fstype=cifs,credentials=/etc/samba/credentials,iocharset=utf8,uid=1000,gid=100,dir_mode=0775,file_mode=0775,nounix ://192.168.1.253/media I get a media directory empty. Can you help me? I linked the corresponding Debian/upstream bug, but right now the unfortunate status quo seems to be: iodbc2 is dead, and soprano did not work with unixodbc back then. Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better. I have been unable to reproduce this on a fresh natty image installing vsftpd from -updates and then removing it using apt-get remove vsftpd. It could be that there is a problem specific to your machine. Could you please try the following command and paste the output, so that we can see where exactly it is failing? However, currently on our systems, the mount fails completely. This functionality does work with our RHEL 5 hosts (which use autofs 5.0.1). Automounting from a single host does work, but when we supply multiple hosts, an strace shows that it's trying to connect to the IP address '0.0.0.0', port 0, rather than any of the hosts we specify. I've upgraded from 10.10 to 11.10 and too find it sometimes extremely slow and unresponsive. Sometimes it kinda freezes although the hard-disk light flashes.This normally happens if I switch apps or open a new app etc. It's almost so bad I'm considering going back to 10.04. I have just attached a kernel patch, I'd appreciate if somebody could try it out. This patch was prepared against 3.2-rc kernel, and parts of it (the changes in the iwl-mac80211.c file) will not directly apply to older kernels as we moved some code around. Those parts should apply to iwl- agn.c instead. Alternatively, I might work with somebody more familiar with ubuntu to provide backport packages including this patch. The patch allows a more fine-grained 11n_disable. Instead of 11n_disable=1, it would be interesting to see if, for example, 11n_disable=2 also helps. The vdt-globus-common package that is reported to clash with globus- common-progs is a third party package. The VDT globus packages contains the same software as the globus packages in Debisn/Ubuntu. That they clash is to be expected, but is not a packaging problem with the globus packages in Debian/Ubuntu. As a user you should decide whether you want to use the packages in Debian/Ubuntu or the ones in the VDT third party distribution. You should take all globus packages from the same repository.
