Whoops - I should say, suspending works as expected when initiating it
via the panel menu, for instance. Additionally, in my attached dmesg, I
had acpi=rsdt passed to the kernel for troubleshooting an older issue.
Removing it did not change the lid/suspend behavior.

NB that that asflags thing is just a work around, not an actual fix.
This bug was addressed in the toolchain:
http://sourceware.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=12698
and seems to be fixed in at least some of the linaro toolchain packages --
maybe it just failed to get into the lucid one somehow?
