[Bug 881628] Re: Bad performance after a few minutes
Lilleman, it's possible you see similar bugs between different versions of ubuntu but their causes might be different. For example, there is a serious performance problem with the nvidia 295.40 driver in 12.04 --> bug 982710. So yes, please do try a different driver/card to test so we can figure out if this is a general issue or not. Also, you say the problem existed in Ubuntu 10.10 for you, meaning it was a problem before Unity. Can you please try logging in to a Unity2D session (select on the login screen) to compare. And also try a "Gnome Classic" session (may require installing "gnome-shell" package). [Bug 812394] Re: Disable hibernate option by default
i am also in favor of it being enabled by default. you say it is unprofessional if Ubuntu shows the hibernate option but it does not work, though that is exactly what is the case now, just that Ubuntu does not really try to hibernate. for the user, these are both the same: "does not work!". sure... there are scenarios where you would loose data in one way and not in the other, but such scenarios can be drawn either way. for example, if i have very low battery, i have to leave, and have lots of apps open.. i click on hibernate, close the lid and off i go... while underway, the rest of the battery gets emptied, and i loose data. i am using xubuntu, which shows an error message box: "Failed to hibernate session - not authorized" ... which suggests a system/software configuration error. this error starts appearing after updating to 12.04, which suggest that the update mis-configured the system, which... would be unprofessional. ;-) i read that on Ubuntu, you do not get any error message, which is even worse. The least i would expect, is a worthwhile and accurate error message. something like: "there is lots of hardware ... certified ... if your system ... therefore, hibernation has been disabled for your system, to prevent you from using data." and this error should appear right after clicking on hibernate, and an error sound should appear, and the screen should not be locked. The best thing you could do, would be to organize a whistle blower at MS, that hands over their list of hardware+fixes for hibernation. if then you only fail to properly hibernate for systems where MS fails too, you are on the safe side. i would even find it morally just to hack into MS, for getting this list, as it is morally totally wrong and bad for the end user, for hardware creators to help MS but not others in this issue. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/812394 Title: Disable hibernate option by default To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ayatana-design/+bug/812394/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 987007] Re: Upgrade from 11.10 to 12.4beta2 not possible with fglrx installed
Well, the difference between update-amanger refusing the upgrade and running through was disabling the fglrx binary driver. The PPA that had the driver you see in the logs was never used to install the fglrx driver. The non canonical PPAs where my first guess of course, so I disabled them all and tried to run the upgrade again, leading to the same error message. That's when I started took into the jockey logs and discovered the messages about fglrx which gave me the idea to disable the AI driver. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/987007 Title: Upgrade from 11.10 to 12.4beta2 not possible with fglrx installed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-release-notes/+bug/987007/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 277873] Re: cdrom upgrade requires absolute path
I ran into this same problem when I tried to upgrade 11.10 to 12.04, same changes fixed the problem I ended up doing something like: commenting out the `UPGRADER_DIR=dists/$CODENAME/main/dist-upgrader/binary-all` line. (put a # infront of it) Then change the fullpath line to `fullpath=$ISOPATHGOESHERE/dists/$CODENAME/main/dist-upgrader/binary-all` replacing `$ISOPATHGOESHERE` with the full path for the mounted ISO path, cd path, or whatever it may be (optional) comment out the `exit 1` lines... it cased the terminal to exit without leaving the errors visable and put word `sudo` infront of the `$TMPDIR/$CODENAME --cdrom "$cddirname" $@` line (note: don't copy the ` ` characters) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/277873 Title: cdrom upgrade requires absolute path To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/update-manager/+bug/277873/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 930447] Re: Unable to Install Ubuntu 12.04 on Pentium M x86 Laptop due to PAE kernel
You can also install a command-line system using the Xubuntu alternate CD, which gives a non-pae kernel. This doesn't need an internet connection, by the way. Then reboot, login and enter the commands: sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop to give a standard Ubuntu install with non-pae kernel. This stage will need an internet connection (or access to an apt-cacher-ng server), of course. (I figure that there ought to be some way to use the Ubuntu alternate CD for this stage, but haven't worked that out yet. That would mean needing an internet connection only for the final updates, which might be useful for people whose connections are a bit uncertain or slow.) Though I haven't tried it, I assume that one could instead do: sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/930447 Title: Unable to Install Ubuntu 12.04 on Pentium M x86 Laptop due to PAE kernel To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/930447/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 990913] [NEW] RAID goes into degrade mode on every boot 12.04 LTS server
Public bug reported: I have 2 new Dell PowerEdge R515. Box have 2 internal SAS drives and 12 hot swap I create a 12 driver raid 6 array on the 12 hot swap drives without problem but on every reboot I get a message about either degraded or not enough drives for the raid 6. If I shutdown and pull all 12 drives and let boot. Then plug them in. The array comes up fine most everytime. This happens on both of these new R512 Also loaded 12.04 LTS server on a R710 and the mpt2sas load and times out. I had to add rootdelay=180 to boot parms. [Bug 990260] Re: Latest kernel makes Sentelic touchpad misbehave
The attached archive contains versions of sentelic.c and sentelic.h that are drop-in replacements for the versions provided in the standard kernel. This version of the driver, for me at least, works far better than the one currently in teh standard kernel. I have attempted to reduce the delta between my version and the standard one as much as possible, however the core packet processing and initialisation routines are too different to be reconciled easily. I'm not sure where Ubuntu's version of the driver came from, but it seems to have been substantially rewritten from the version I obtained from saaros/sentelic on githut a few months ago. ** Attachment added: "sentelic.tar.gz" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/990260/+attachment/3114395/+files/sentelic.tar.gz -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/990260 Title: Latest kernel makes Sentelic touchpad misbehave To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/990260/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 990908] [NEW] Won't honor "Do Nothing" when Lid is Closed
Public bug reported: My laptop is plugged in, and as you can see (in the attached screenshot) I've selected to "Do Nothing" when the lid of my laptop is closed. However, each time I close the lid, it goes into "suspend" mode. I've even set it to "Do Nothing" for both "unplugged" and "plugged". [Bug 990909] [NEW] [regression][precise] Focus-follow-mouse is no longer compatible with fullscreen Flash
Public bug reported: Starting immediately after update from Oneiric to Precise, focus- follows-mouse no longer works with fullscreen Flash. When focus-follows- mouse is enabled, attempting to go fullscreen in a Flash video fails. The fullscreen window opens momentarily and then disappears. Very occasionally, it stays up. Be careful not to change # the 'exec tail' line above. # menuentry "FreeBSD 8.1" { set root=(hd0,3) chainloader +1 } After upgrading to "precise", there were 2 entries for BSD in the Grub2 boot menu: the one produced automatically and the one produced by my 40_custom file. So I commented out the FreeBSD stuff in this file, re- ran update-grub, and am left with only the "FreeBSD 8.1-RELEASE (GENERIC) (on /dev/sda3)" entry created by the partition scan. Actually, this may have been fixed already in 11.10, but I didn't notice whether there were one or two FreeBSD entries in the boot menu after that upgrade; I upgraded right away to 12.04. I believe that it's necessary to have the FreeBSD boot loader in the FreeBSD partition ("slice"). It might be possible to install FreeBSD without a boot loader at all, and have the code run by update-grub find the FreeBSD kernel, but someone needs to verify whether this is possible. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/432254 Title: *BSD not detected by os-prober To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-bootloader-manager/+bug/432254/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
