Public bug reported: Seems to be a race condition between ligthdm and nvidia driver. Sometimes boot is ok, Sometimes lightdm pop the running in low graphic mode session. none of the options works but workaround is to switch to terminal, and restart lightdm for the old style: $ sudo /etc/init.d/lightdm restart this restart solve the problem and login manager is running as usual. Apparently this bug popped up in two different places in the code. I've tested it in stable and unstable branch and I can't reproduce it in the stable version. Which probably means that the intial solution fixed it for stable branch. Unstable branch is working with volumes a different way so another fix was required. Thanks for all the info. I can also confirm that disabling vsync results in low cpu usage in unity. Dropped from about 40% to 5% when moving windows. What do you need vsync for anyway? None of the packages aptitude wants to remove has dependencies on the one broken package. I'd suppose this being a big nasty bug within aptitude. Public bug reported: Probably this problem is reported but the ubuntu-bug system cannot trace it. I have upgraded to 12.04 from 11.10 which was a clean install. My keyboard language-settings (in the login screen as well) were norwegian and greek. However when I installed the 12.04 version my keyboard-layout was changed to english but the keyboard layout manager was showing norwegian. On the keyboard-layout settings I put the english(US) layout and I removed greek and norwegian. Typed a bit and then put norwegian and greek and I removed the english (US) again and chose the Alt-Shift combination for changing layouts. What I get is an unchangable english(US) layout. Important note: My keyboard is US-keyboard. I mean the hardware. P.S. The ubuntu-bug system has a serious bug. When I was looking about the bug on Google I could find the launchpad relevant subject. I can confirm that it works with kernel v3.4-rc2 on a Compaq CQ10-400 netbook with the rt3090 chipset now. Thanks as I didn't find a way of solving this problem in 11.10 for the last half year. First I was disappointed that this fix didn't work, but the using inSSIDer (under Windows) I found another problem: the wifi router did use a very busy channel. When fixed it worked good, however before this fix windows has less problems with the connection as Ubuntu. Often my own wifi was often not listed, although it has by far the strongest signal. So there is some room for improvement although I don't know if this is caused by the kernel. Public bug reported: I tried to share a folder and was prompted to install samba, which I accepted. I did not install pam-smbpass as I don't need it. I was prompted to log out and in again, which I did. Now I get this when creating a share: --- 'net usershare' returned error 255: net usershare: cannot open usershare directory /var/lib/samba/usershares. Error Permission denied You do not have permission to create a usershare. Ask your administrator to grant you permissions to create a share. --- It looks like the user was not added to the group sambashare at all (which script is supposed to do this? Where is the log file?). Manually running # sudo usermod -a -G sambashare jakob fixes the issue.
