Ok, I did it by checking the update log /var/log/apt/term.log and forced
the old versions off all the updated packages in synpatic (F3 -> force
version). After downgrading, I locked them to stop them from being
updated again in the future.

and all would have it. I met another person with the same problem on his

Hmm. I'm not using the same setup now, but I'm still able to test it.
"allow-hotplug" seems to have stopped working completely in Ubuntu
12.04, despite being still mentioned in the man page. I.e. the
interface is not brought up automatically when I plug the hardware in.
Maybe it didn't get teste
My temporary solution:
1) Downgraded to previous version, i.e. lo-menubar 0.1.0-0ubuntu4, and
2) Locked version -- using Synaptic Package Manager

I suggest the option in CCSM->Scale addons->close_button - just set
middle click as a default . It's a universal nowadays principle - middle
click opens in a new tab or closes tabs . I even think that was a
default option some time ago .
