Same here, I was changing preferences and then the program never started
up correctly.
Removing this file,
~/.config/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/ristretto.xml
logging out and back in again, did restore Ristretto to its functioning
state. Now I just wont touch the thumbnail option again...
FWIW, the solution for LP: #1018998 did not fix this problem.

@Marc One distinction that I forgot to mention is that I am using ruby
1.9.2 (from either rbenv or rvm). Here are the following situations
where the script works and fails.
Ubuntu 12.04 + openssl in updates + stock ruby 1.8.7: Pass
Ubuntu 12.04 + openssl in updates + compiled ruby 1.9.3: Fail
12.04 and just hit this now when plugging in my Vizio TV in via HD. Cleared out
my monitor.xml to get around it.
When I plug in, my laptop monitor always goes black then both screens turn on.

I have a similar/related problem that began occuring after upgrading to
ubuntu 12.04, but mine occurs during boot. Approximately 1 out of 5
times, the boot fails with a segfault in libfreetype.so.6.8.0 when

This bug has not been completely resolved!
Before today it always worked fine since I upgraded to 3.2.0-26 kernel.
But today it started to give exactly the same problem of 3.2.0-25
kernel, my laptop poweroff when I resumed from suspend.
I haven't well understood what Csaba has written in his
Comment #18 - they are text. I have no idea why bugzilla marks them as
bin.
I downloaded one by selecting it and did a save file.
I selected the saved file and I could read it fine with the normal
Nautilus display.
