and ran into the kernel detecting my cable as a 40 wire when I knew it was
80. My suspicion is that even when it thinks it is an 80 wire, it chooses a
DMA level that cannot be sustained. I put in a SATA instead.

Is it confirmed that the power down hang problem is caused by the nvidia driver.
The reason I ask is because I also have issues with wlan on my PC.
If I turn on the router before booting ubuntu the network newer connects. I
then have to disable network followed enable network before it works.

This behaviour seems to be caused by the absence of the Policy Kit agent. When
I started '/usr/lib/policykit-1-gnome/polkit-gnome-authentication-agent-1'
(which apparently had died) manually the problem was solved. The store
shouldn't fail silently when a Policy Kit agent is not present.

I have also seen this problem.
After manually fixing the file path in .config/transmission/settings.json it
reoccurred at the next torrent download.
