I did a fresh install in Ubuntu 12.10 Beta 2, updated the system with
Synaptic and after i restart my laptop, i did an sudo apt-get

Using FOSS ati driver (uninstalling fglrx) also produce crash. I try
running:
sudo apt-get purge xorg-driver-fglrx fglrx-*
sudo apt-get install --reinstall libgl1-mesa-glx libgl1-mesa-dri
sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
sudo apt-get install --reinstall xserver-xorg-core
Then you get a crash

Indeed, this appears to have been introduced to an update a while ago as
I've had frequent instances of crashing since the last batch of
compiz/unity updates.
If it helps any, I've moved on to Unity in -proposed (5.16.0-0ubuntu1)
and the issue still remains.
