[Bug 1153364] Re: trouble with guest network connectivity when host is using a bonded interface

2013-03-15 Thread ben thielsen
no worries. i'm a bit embarrassed i couldn't offer a more directed
initial report.

i do believe the vhost_net module is installed and working:

lsmod | grep -i vhost

virtio-balloon-pci,id=balloon0,bus=pci.0,addr=0x5

i've tested with lxc as you ask - it seems to not exhibit this problem.
pings both from the container/guest against other devices on the
network, as well as pings against the container/guest. i did notice,
with some consistency, duplicate pings - but i know that this is
sometimes simply just a largely innocuous side affect of certain types
of load balancing, so i'm not necessarily terribly concerned about that.
in addition, connectivity to the guest/container in general seemed to be
fine, which which not the case with the prior testing.

a couple of other notes to add that i've come across [or remembered]
since my previous post. i have since also tested with balance-tlb, and
this seems to work ok, with no symptoms of intermittent network
connectivity - both for my kvm guests, as well as the lxc
container/guest.

also, i had forgotten about it when i initially wrote up this
submission, but initially, i was using macvtap for my kvm guest network
connectivity, and this is where i first saw the symptoms. i then
switched to using a bridged setup, partially to test things further, but
also for also reasons related to some of the limitations of macvtap
[specifically guests not being able to communicate with the host when
using the same interface]. ultimately, i intend to stay with the
bridged configuration, because of this, but wanted to mention that the
symptoms do appear to be present with both.

lastly, one other possibly interesting bit of info - as i was testing
again this morning with balance-alb and lxc, i tested again with a kvm
guest to ensure the symptom was still present. this time when pinging,
not only were the symptoms still present, i saw some behavior i hadn't
noticed previously:

It doesn't import the dates in the csv file provided by my bank. If it
is only designed to import dates that use a specific separator then this
is a bug with the specification, rather than the implementation. Either
way, it is a reasonable user expectation that the programme will import

So its not appropriate to mark this bug as invalid.

2013-03-15 Thread Phillip Susi
The current raring version, which appears to be 1.4.0+dfsg-1expubuntu3.
Also I guess this should be under just the qemu package now rather
than -kvm.

The command line is qemu -drive file=whatever.iso,if=virtio,media=cdrom.
With or without the media argument seems to make no difference; either
way udev thinks the drive is a disk, not a cdrom.

2013-03-15 Thread costales
If the 'first_run' file not exists all works right. Protect the

user@computer:~$ chmod ug-w ~/.local/share/vinagre/

Cheers!

[Bug 1154229] Re: [FFE] New Unity Dash

2013-03-15 Thread Michael Hall
** Summary changed:

- [FFE] New Unity stack

** Description changed:

- A new version of Unity, libunity APIs, the default and new 100 scopes,
- with a target date of March 25th for landing in Raring.
+ A new version of Unity's Dash, libunity APIs, the default and new 100
+ scopes, with a target date of March 25th for landing in Raring. The
+ rest of Unity (Launcher, Indicators, HUD, etc) will not be affected.

For reference, the new smart scope service and corresponding Unity
  changes was discussed here: http://fridge.ubuntu.com/2013/01/30/smart-
  scopes/

The spec for the smart scope service is here:
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SmartScopes1304Spec

The goal is to have everything ready by the 25th March. Until then, a
ppa will be updated everyday for testing the feature by a group of 5
people (the ppa will be: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-unity/+archive
/experimental-certified). Existing tests will be run as per of the daily
release process. That + the manual testing, we'll have a good pick on
the quality status before flipping the switch.

All packages will be prereviewed for NEWing and MIRing.

Using current raring (2013-03-15):

- select some chars
- dnd the selection to the unity launcher

- the launcher icons are dimmed (out of nautilus) but they don't get
colored again once the dnd ends

[Bug 1155687] [NEW] KDE session didn't start after Raring upgrade (qdbus problem)

2013-03-15 Thread avlas
Public bug reported:

Instead an error message appeared about qdbus. I then checked whether
qdbus was correctly installed. I saw that only qdbus:i386 (in my amd64
system) was actually installed, so I proceeded to install regular qdbus.
This replaced qdbus:i386 by the regular qdbus, which finally solved my
problem. Now the KDE session starts without problems.

I hope this helps to fix the issue before the final release in April.

This is a bit of a long shot, but is it possible this is the same error
as

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nova/+bug/1029430

? That bug and all its solutions/workarounds seem to be only about dhcp,
but it may be causing general udp checksum problems.

You might at host boot, as per comment #16 (but doing all ports), try

[ -e /dev/vhost-net ] \
sudo iptables -t mangle -A POSTROUTING -o br0 -p udp -m udp -j CHECKSUM
--checksum-fill

[Bug 1155695] [NEW] mq_overview(7) contains outdated, inaccurate fs.mqueue.queues_max limit description

2013-03-15 Thread Arto Bendiken
Public bug reported:

The manpages 3.40-0.1ubuntu3 package in Ubuntu 12.10 contains an
mq_overview(7) man page with outdated, severely inaccurate information
regarding the /proc/sys/fs/mqueue/queues_max kernel limit, as follows:

The default value for queues_max is 256; it can be changed to any value
in the range 0 to INT_MAX.

This used to be true in Linux 3.2.x, as shipped in Ubuntu 12.04.
However, it is no longer true with Linux 3.5.x, as shipped in 12.10.

For some inexplicable reason, upstream lowered the hard upper limit for
POSIX message queues (fs.mqueue.queues_max) from INT_MAX to 1024 in the
3.5 kernel:

# sysctl -w fs.mqueue.queues_max=1025
sysctl: setting key fs.mqueue.queues_max: Invalid argument
fs.mqueue.queues_max = 1025

You can verify the new, post-3.5 limit at:

http://lxr.free-electrons.com/source/ipc/mq_sysctl.c?v=3.5#L40
http://lxr.free-electrons.com/source/include/linux/ipc_namespace.h?v=3.5#L121

Please amend the man page so that the new limit is correctly documented.
The undocumented change from INT_MAX queues to a mere 1024 queues is
rather harsh, and it took quite some investigation to pin this down as
an upstream kernel change.

** Affects: manpages (Ubuntu)

 Status: Confirmed

[Bug 184472]

2013-03-15 Thread John
Same problem here, with Slackware and KDE 4.8.2.

Only, I noticed something different too: I frequently use the
compose key (spanish locale), and that functionality _also_ stops working.
This is very annoying, as it alwys stops at the moment I most need it (Murphy's
Law).

I don't actually use KDE as window manager (I use XFCE), but Slackware is KDE
based and running some kde programs starts the kdeinit4 daemon.
Another strange thing: I can re-enable Compose, using xmodmap, but it
stops working again after a random time.

I very much suspect both problems (LED and Compose) are related. Does anyone
using Compose notice this?

I just had major data loss due to the computer freezing up because of
this bug. A whole git repository was hopelessly damaged. It contains
major work data. I don't know what I can restore since the last backup.
Maybe some of it.

I want to extend my thanks to the developers that marked this bug as
WONTFIX.

2013-03-15 Thread John
Andriy,

I will do that - I am now testing a suggestion which seems to make sense. I
removed
'setxkbmap us' from my bashrc. I read a report that after calling setxkbmap the
problem
is activated.

Either way, I'll report back tomorrow.

[Bug 1155693] [NEW] Zebra printer not compatible with cups 1.5.3

2013-03-15 Thread Dustin R
Public bug reported:

The ttp20x0.ppd driver for the zebra 2030 printer does not install in
cups 1.5.3. I downloaded zebraCupsDrivers_v2.zip from
http://www.cups.org/str.php?L3767 . Installed the filter by running:

sudo aptitude install libcups2-dev libcupsimage2-dev
gcc -o rastertozebrakiosk rastertozebrakiosk.c -lcups -lcupsimage
sudo cp rastertozebrakiosk /usr/lib/cups/filter

Then I tired installing the printer via the localhost:631 interface.
When I select the ttp20x0.ppd from the file I downloaded I get this
error:

Unable to open PPD file:

[Bug 1154197] Re: [FFe] [needs packaging] New package libcangjie

2013-03-15 Thread Didier Roche
* debian/rules:

dh_auto_install

# Removing unused files
rm -f debian/tmp/usr/lib/*/*.la

The rm here is done after the file is installed in each

So either switch the order or remove rather debian/*/usr/lib/*/*.la

* Some little picky thing:

build-depends:libdb5.3++-dev
W: libcangjie source: missing-license-paragraph-in-dep5-copyright public domain

[Bug 967229] Re: Text mode shown briefly with various cryptic texts when logging out or shutting down

2013-03-15 Thread James M. Leddy
Hi Steve,

I've linked a branch that clears the vt before lightdm starts up, so any
cruft that was echoed out to the terminal will not survive when lightdm
stops . This fixes the first bullet you mentioned, and also fixes this
problem when you do S3. I've taken the additional step of coloring the
text black, but I can take that out if you wish.

As for the second bullet, basically the way to fix this is to make sure
that upstart schedules in the plymouth job immediately after lightdm
stops and before any other shutdown jobs are scheduled. Or as you
mentioned, we could start plymouth before lightdm stops, but I'm not
sure how to achieve that.

that component-mismatches will be happy. I keep systemd-services in

[Bug 1154229] Re: [FFE] New Unity Dash

2013-03-15 Thread Olli Ries
Release team, we appreciate your support and would like to work with you
as closely as possible to get the change in and enhance Ubuntu all
together. I can understand the concerns about missed deadlines and am
apologizing on behalf of the team for the troubled caused.

Here is what we think is happening and I would like to get your feedback to
adjust things as quickly as possible:
- the team will take the ambiguity of the title New Unity Stack out by
providing a better summary of affected components in order to help your
assessment

- didrocks has set up PPAs to get test coverage in, first feedback is
coming back already (based on the -prevalidation PPA). The PPAs are
equivalent to the ones used for daily landing, except for pulling from a
feature branch

- we will engage with Nicholas Skaggs to get additional test coverage

- while parts are ready to land now, the API changes render all
dependencies unusable and we have been advised that it would be
preferable to land everything in one go, rather in smaller iterations.
Let us know your opinion

- the targeted landing on our end into the PPAs is 3/22

- I had offered help earlier to your team, if there is anything we can
possibly do (screenshots?), let me know

Please note that the privacy settings as outlined in
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SmartScopes1304Spec will be landing in the PPA
next week, the early version you can access today does not have all
required pieces yet.

See https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/vde2/+bug/776818

It was rejected for main by the security team, with a specific list
of objections. Addressing those objections would be the first step
to getting that reconsidered.

[Bug 1134364] Re: Check for missing language support for all installed languages

2013-03-15 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
I have successfully installed and run language-selector 0.79.2 and
accountsservice 0.6.15-2ubuntu9.5 from precise-proposed. When following
the test case steps above I was prompted to install hunspell-fr as
expected, even if French is not selected as my current language.

I also generated the locale zh_CN.utf8 using locale-gen() (simplified
Chinese is not installed) and restarted gnome-language-selector. I was
not prompted to install any Chinese language support files.
