[Bug 1169030] Re: CVE 2013-1915: local files disclosure or resource exhaustion via XML External Entity attack

2013-04-16 Thread Evan Broder
Ok, here's a patch with the fix for CVE-2012-2751 rolled in. I kind of
made up the DEP-3 fields, but I think they'll at least satisfy their
purpose.

I've tested that the resulting packages with this patch work at at least
a basic level, but I still don't have POCs to test with or anything.

[Bug 1169634] [NEW] Please upgrade to the (bugfix only) version 2.2.1 for Raring Ringtail

2013-04-16 Thread Ansgar Bohmann
Public bug reported:

There is a new version of Mnemosyne which does not introduce any new
features but only fixes known issues. I'd suggest to upgrade the package
in Raring Ringtail to this version even though there is not much time
left until the release date of Raring.

Some quotations from Peter Bienstman, the Mnemosyne developer:

- 2.2.1 should hopefully be the bug-freeest (is that a word?) release
yet! (2013/04/15)

- In case you might wondering what the big planned features for the
next release will be, the answer is ... nothing! Indeed, there is a
whole slew of minor bug reports that are still unadressed, and now that
the major features are in and the major bugs are out, it seems like a
good time to iron out some wrinkles. (2012/12/06)

[Bug 94940] Re: mdns listed in nsswitch.conf causes excessive time for dns lookups

2013-04-16 Thread Stephan
Great. I just spent half a day debugging my network (as I've just set
up my own bind service on a new server) before I finally found an
article[1] and later this bug report that explained what was going on
and how to fix it.

I noticed that my Ubuntu Server has the working nsswitch.conf installed
by default with: hosts: files dns

I'm running Desktop Ubuntu 12.04 on my laptop so I don't know if this
has been fixed in later Ubuntus. But if not, please fix it! The fix
seems pretty easy.

Re: [Bug 1169604] [NEW] set permission to og+rx on working directory to allow test execution by any user

2013-04-16 Thread Ian Jackson
Jean-Baptiste Lallement writes ([Bug 1169604] [NEW] set permission to og+rx on
working directory to allow test execution by any user):
 Public bug reported:

 adt-run creates a working directory with mktemp in /tmp/ e.g /tmp/tmp.XX
which is set to the default permissions u+rwx.
This makes impossible to execute tests with another user than the user who
 started the tests or root.

permissions should be changed to og+rx for this directory.

Simply changing the permissions is not correct. Tests might contain
confidential information, and the test runner might be running on a
system which is doing other work.

If it is necessary for a test to share information between multiple
non-root users, it should create a suitable Unix group, or something.

What are you trying to do ?

Ian.

[Bug 1168999] Re: random delegates don't get styled

I could have sworn that this bug was a duplicate of another one that we
had already (and I even have vague memories of Zsombor telling me it's
fixed already), but for the life of me I just cannot find that original
bug report.

Anyways, I'm not currently able to reproduce this myself, but we have
gotten a couple bug reports about it:

$ apt-cache policy qtdeclarative5-ubuntu-ui-toolkit-plugin
qtdeclarative5-ubuntu-ui-toolkit-plugin:
  Installed: 0.1.41~manual1

 0.1.38 0

Oh, looks like I'm using a newer PPA version. I guess this fix hasn't
hit raring yet.

[Bug 1167114] Re: Ubuntu Kernel 3.5.0-27 does not boot

2013-04-16 Thread Kristian Erik Hermansen
New kernel 3.5.0-28 appears to boot and works OK. No idea if the
graphics support is stable or not though (seems slow to me after a while
of usage -- random hiccups, etc).

[Bug 1169030] Re: CVE 2013-1915: local files disclosure or resource exhaustion via XML External Entity attack

2013-04-16 Thread Marc Deslauriers
As discussed on irc, the package has no patch system, so they're not
being applied at build time. Could you please submit a new debdiff with
the patches applied inline? Thanks.

Also, the CVE-2013-1915 patch causes the package to FTBFS, so it's going
to need some fixing.

Thanks!

[Bug 1100843] Re: Live Migration Causes Performance Issues

2013-04-16 Thread Paolo Bonzini
The results of comment 23 suggest that the issue is not 100%
reproducible. Can you please run the benchmark 3-4 times
(presave/postrestore) and showall 4 results? One benchmark only, e.g.
simple read will do.

Also please try putting a big file on disk (something like dd
if=/dev/zero of=bigfile count=64K bs=64K) and then doing cat bigfile
/dev/null after restoring. Please check if that makes performance more
consistent.

[Bug 1108719] Re: usb crashed with SIGSEGV in opendir() -- USB ports are in BIOS disabled -- cupsd crashes every time

2013-04-16 Thread Till Kamppeter
What is the output of

lsusb

on your machine? Do you get any output? Does it crash? Please post the
output here.

Can you reproduce the crash? Probably most easily you can reproduce it
running

sudo /usr/lib/cups/backend/usb

If a crash report pops up, follow the steps until a new bug report gets
generated. Please post a link to the new bug here.

[Bug 1169649] [NEW] Xorg freeze after installing nvidia-319

2013-04-16 Thread Max
Public bug reported:

gnome-shell was supposed to start, instead I get static image of my desktop
background. Typing gnome-shell in virtual terminal gives some GLX error and
using optirun works somewhat but it lists a lot of warnings every time I
perform any actions.
Installing nvidia-319 does something to graphics settings. nvidia-313 doesn't
do this and removing nvidia completely causes no problems.

[Bug 1169491] Re: Bypass lock screen after wakeup from suspend with scale or expo plugin active

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 49579 ***

Thanks for reporting this bug to Ubuntu.

Sadly, it is not safe to rely upon automatic screen locking mechanisms
with X11; the safe thing to do is manually lock the screen before
suspending.

[Bug 1169506] Re: problem whith no background

2013-04-16 Thread Seth Arnold
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Bug 1163905] Re: Backport-Request: Failure in Duply's pre-scripts are muted

2013-04-16 Thread Eduardo Damato
** Description changed:

- This happens in precise:

- If you create a Duply pre-script which reads
+ duply does not check the return status of pre and post scripts and therefore
returns 0 even if there was a problem in the pre/post scripts which returned an
error.

- exit 1
+ This issue happens every time and is 100% reproducible

- then a run of duply srv pre will give
+ SRU Justification:
+ [Impact]
+
+ * When using duply, errors on pre/post scripts are not caught and
+ therefore succeed even if there were problems.
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ * Set up duply
+ * Create a pre script containing simply 'exit 1' inside it.
+ * Run 'duply srv pre'
+ * See duply succeed and return 0

--- Start running command PRE at 12:58:29.630 ---
  Running '/root/.duply/srv/pre' - FAILED (code 1)
  --- Finished state OK at 12:58:29.638 - Runtime 00:00:00.008 ---
  root@nas:~# echo $?
  0

- So there is no easy way to detect a failure of the pre script and the
- same applies to post. This has already been fixed upstream and I'll
- attach a patch that fixes this issue. With the patch applied, the
- outcome is
+ with the patch:

--- Start running command PRE at 13:02:03.643 ---
  Running '/root/.duply/srv/pre' - FAILED (code 1)
13:02:03.652 Task 'PRE' failed with exit code '1'.
  --- Finished state FAILED 'code 1' at 13:02:03.652 - Runtime 00:00:00.009 ---
  root@nas:~# echo $?
  1
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ * The patch is minimal and has been accepted/committed upstream.
+ * This package has been tested on a virtual machine with the test case above
and showed the right exit value. Minimal likelihood of regressions.
+
+
+ Status:
+
+ * Patch is the same as:

Vince, Interesing you should mention that you had a lucky first few

Don't worry, that will happen on Thursday. If you'd like, you might
want to get someone to check the translation for errors, just to be safe.
Thursday will be the last upload for Ubuntu 13.04. There is a website

[Bug 1169611] Re: 13.04 installation has damaged my luks partition

2013-04-16 Thread Dmitrijs Ledkovs
partman log is very verbose and it's not entirely clear to me what
layout you had before the install, what install you have chosen and what
happened afterwards.

Partman is showing two disks /dev/sda and /dev/sdb in the beginning.

What did you perform manual partitioning using something else option?
Or did you select of the pre-defined options (resize, wipe install,
upgrade)? How did you encrypt swap?

[Bug 1169679] [NEW] Make images first-class citizens.

2013-04-16 Thread Robert Bruce Park
Public bug reported:

So, we currently support Flickr and it looks like Instagram will be
landing early during the S cycle. These two protocols are both primarily
image-sharing sites, and friends-app handles this a little bit goofily,
displaying the image caption but requiring a click in order to even see
the thumbnail.

i think the layout should be changed so that image thumbnails are always
displayed (even when the message details are collapsed), and it should
probably be arranged at the top of the message, with the caption beneath
it. It would be harmlessly hidden for messages that don't have
thumbnails, but it would make flickr, instagram, and facebook links look
a bit more attractive.

(we should also look into using larger thumbnails / scaling them so they
take the whole width of the column, that would be really sexy)

[Bug 1169677] [NEW] bzip2recover (v.1.0.6) creates wrong headers (of rec* files)

2013-04-16 Thread Aleks-ger
Public bug reported:

I found a bug in bzip2recover 1.0.6.

Assume you have a huge (2 GB) perfect myfile.bz2.
Using bzip2recover myfile.bz2 gives rec1myfile.bz2 (and more files
rec*.bz2).
The fourth Header Byte is always wrong, see below!
It seems to have low effect, but confused me understandig the file-format,
while writing a tool for 'healing' bad downloaded huge bz2-files.
The 4th byte in header wrong, for sure.

WHAT I MADE:
$ head -c 8 myfile.bz2
BZh11AY
$ file myfile.bz2
myfile.bz2: bzip2 compressed data, block size = 100k
$ file rec1myfile.bz2
rec1rec1saarpart.bz2: bzip2 compressed data, block size = 900k
$ head -c 8 rec1myfile.bz2
BZh91AY
$ bunzip2 rec1myfile.bz2 ; ls -l rec1myfile
-rw--- 1 me None 99938 15. Apr 19:00 rec1myfile

This is close to 100,000 Byte, which is idicated by block size = 100k.
It would be right to use the original Header, not constant BZh9.
Please comment on that.

MY SYSTEM:
$ bzip2recover --version
bzip2recover 1.0.6: extracts blocks from damaged .bz2 files.
$ bzip2 -V
bzip2, a block-sorting file compressor. Version 1.0.6, 6-Sept-2010.
$ cat /proc/version

(Ubuntu/Linaro 4.6.3-1ubuntu5) ) #62-Ubuntu SMP Thu Feb 28 00:28:53 UTC 2013

also checked on Cygwin, same result

[Bug 1099289] Re: Touch screen stops clicking...

2013-04-16 Thread Tommy
I've already tried reporting the bug upstream.

The issue is, they apparently have such strict guidelines for those kind
of bugs that I'm baffled as to how it even works. I did my absolute best
to follow the guidelines for filing an upstream bug report. After 2
hours of putting the email together and sending it with all the
information I could find on it, I never received a response.

  Ubuntu Studio amd64.

I would like to help debugging this but i need some guidance because my

help solving this. While waiting some response, i'm going to try with a
newer kernel release as suggested on the coments of bug #1163320 and i

[Bug 927515] Re: Thunderbird stuck at 100% CPU

2013-04-16 Thread Ken Johnson
I can confirm the same behavior on Ubuntu 12.10, with encrypted home
directory, running Thunderbird 17.05. Thunderbird constantly using
50-100% cpu, for hours at a time, only occasionally dropping below 50%.
Creating new profiles, deleting various sqlite files, index files, etc
does not fix the problem.

However - since others have ointed out that this seems to be eCryptFS
related - I can confirm that moving my thunderbird profile to an
unencrypted directory outside of my home directory seems to solve or
at least greatly reduce the severity of the problem.

If you are able to (given the security implications), I would recommend
others to try this workaround.

[Bug 1165343] Re: Windows are placed with titlebar obscured by Unity menubar.

2013-04-16 Thread Ken VanDine
I take that back, i dropped the appmenu patch in qtbase5 and the problem
persists, so not qtbase5. I tried a bunch of example apps, all the
qtbase5 demos work fine, but the qtdeclarative5 examples has this
problem. So it also isn't a bug in ubuntu-ui-toolkit. Maybe
qtdeclarative5?

[Bug 1084851] Re: No system-wide proxy for automatic proxy setting method

2013-04-16 Thread Joshua Lock
Of that I'm not really certain. I filed this report because as a user
the behaviour surprised me that some things would be able to access the
network and others wouldn't.

Having dug into the problem a little it's apparent that it's not trivial
to solve - that doesn't mean that it's not worth solving, though.

Perhaps Ubuntu could integrate the PACRunner project[1], or something
similar, and teach the various network dependant tools to talk to that
rather than relying on environment variables?

Or perhaps the tools can be taught to use libproxy[2]?

At the very least maybe we should alert the user that the automatic
settings will result in various things, such as software installation,
possibly not working.

I suppose which resolution is chosen depends on how much of a priority
seamless networking on proxied connections is for Ubuntu and the
engineers involved.

2. https://code.google.com/p/libproxy/
