Dan Dascalescu, could you please confirm this issue exists with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ . If the issue remains, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report: apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number Also, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Please do not test the daily folder, but the one all the way at the bottom. And if you adjust the brightness level through the brightness file, does it work? But using the Fn Keys, you can only adjust it a little, like from full brightness to about half. To add something else, with the other parameters when I adjust with the Fn Keys, the brightness bubble you get on the top right of your screen doesn't appear. And this is when you add the acpi_backlight=vendor cmdline? [Bug 1046912] [NEW] unreliable wifi connection
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I'm running into intermittent failure to connect to nearby (strong signal) access points -- the AP's are visible, but network-manager just spins trying to connect. It's extremely erratic. Rebooting the machine sometimes fixed the problem, sometimes not. Last night I sat on the couch and cold booted the machine 5-7 times. First time it connected, rest of the times if failed (10ft away from the AP). It seems to be worse following wake from suspend, but it's so unpredictable I can't seem to track the cause down. Windows7 connects ever time under the same conditions. For completeness -- It's a brand new i5 xps13. I installed 12.04LTS and then updated from the sputnik ppas. I've tried this under both gnome and xfce4 (at first I thought this was an xfce4 problem, but it doesn't appear to be). Any ideas? If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags: kernel-fixed-upstream kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For example: kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.11-rc4 This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please remove the tag: needs-upstream-testing If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags: kernel-bug-exists-upstream kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER As well, please remove the tag: needs-upstream-testing If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, please comment as to why specifically you were unable to test it and add the following tags: kernel-unable-to-test-upstream kernel-unable-to-test-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. [Bug 1091372] Re: wifi slows and/or drops frequently
** Tags removed: unreliability unreliable wifi wireless ** Tags added: bios-outdated-a09 needs-upstream-testing regression-potential ** Description changed: I received my Dell Sputnik XPS (12.04) three days ago, and since then have experienced very unreliable wifi. I'm seeing significant slow downs and drops on several networks. Two main issues: 1) Wifi slows down significantly for 10-60 seconds. It appears no packets are getting through, as all browser requests churn, Flash games show connection errors, pings don't work, and Software Center/Update Manager/apt cannot connect. The connection always returns eventually. This is happening once every few hours to many times an hour. 2) The wifi connection disconnects and quickly reconnects. This is also happening between once every few hours to several times an hour. I cannot spot a pattern or a trigger, but it's happening a lot. It's occurred on all three networks I've connected on. Two were standard secured home wireless networks, and one is a corporate wireless network. - I have the Sputnik sources that shipped with my Linux installation, and - added the two PPAs as well. + WORKAROUND: sudo modprobe -r iwlwifi sudo modprobe iwlwifi + 11n_disable=1 - I'm happy to provide logging or try some debugging steps -- please let me know how I can help. --- AlsaVersion: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.24. [Bug 1209071] [NEW] python-dns timeout if any (but not all) nameservers fail to answer
Public bug reported: Python-dns will always try queries against all nameservers listed in /etc/resolv.conf, even if it already got an answer. If any of them fail to answer, it will raise a Timeout error. Obviously this is roughly the opposite of what's supposed to happen. [Impact] This changes the DNS failure mode to failing if ALL nameservers fail to answer to failing if ANY nameserver fails to answer. Impacts reliability of the system. In the case of the bug reported in Debian, it was causing mail delivery failures. [Test Case] * Add an invalid nameserver to /etc/resolv.conf. * Run /usr/share/doc/python-dns/examples/test5.py $domain_name * It should end in a traceback and a Timeout error after about 30 seconds. * Install the updated package * Run the test again * It will either return quickly or after some delay with an answer to the query (depending on if the failed nameserver is listed first or not). If it doesn't eventually traceback, the fix is verified. [Regression Potential] * The regression potential of the bug is negligible. I've tested this with many possible combinations of resolv.conf configurations and upstream has reviewed/accepted the patch. ** Affects: python-dns (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Assignee: Scott Kitterman (kitterman) Status: In Progress ** Affects: python-dns (Ubuntu Lucid) Importance: Undecided Status: Won't Fix ** Affects: python-dns (Ubuntu Precise) Importance: Undecided Assignee: Scott Kitterman (kitterman) Status: In Progress ** Affects: python-dns (Ubuntu Quantal) Importance: Undecided Status: Won't Fix ** Affects: python-dns (Ubuntu Raring) Importance: Undecided Status: Won't Fix ** Affects: python-dns (Ubuntu Saucy) Importance: Undecided Assignee: Scott Kitterman (kitterman) Status: In Progress ** Affects: python-dns (Debian) Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown ** Also affects: python-dns (Ubuntu Lucid) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: python-dns (Ubuntu Precise) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: python-dns (Ubuntu Quantal) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: python-dns (Ubuntu Saucy) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: python-dns (Ubuntu Raring) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1209071 Title: python-dns timeout if any (but not all) nameservers fail to answer To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/python-dns/+bug/1209071/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1209047] Re: SD Card not loading in Ubuntu 13.04
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1209047/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.
