I have to report only partial success. The fix works perfectly for USB
drives, but I still get the same 5 min timeout using a combo
USB/IEEE1394 drive if I use the IEE1394 port (works fine when connected
via USB). Might be a matter for a separate bug though.

I also lost my clock today on current 13.10 beta while purging evolution
packages and configuration specific to evolution from various places
(gconf,.local,.cache,.config) to resolve some broken email accounts
which turned out just to be a hangover from gnome-online-accounts being
replaced by ubunt
