I've found the issue. I had changed the python shell in order to add some trace
options and that generated the issue. Removing the change did fix the issue.
And, looking in depth at Avro results, I found that the final result is mixed
with the traces, and that the result is OK.
So, that is my

- the Java version (tried openjava 7 and oracle java 7)
- the eclipse version (tried the ubuntu delivered 3.8 and 4.4 download from
eclipse.org)
They say the cause is that eclipse loads a mix of GTK2

interestingly enough, modifying the privacy settings via sysctl has some
negative affects if addresses are already up. see diagnosis in bug
1377005 .

Recently tried hplip 3.14.10. After installing it and when I pushed Add
Printer button in HP-Setup a 'Firmware download failed' windows
appeared. Then I started 'Diagnose HPLIP Driver' from HP Device
Manager's 'Device' menu and got the following results:

That looks very strange - you should have something like
PATH=/home/cb/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/bin/X11:/usr/games
(that's my path as user, root additionally has /sbin and /usr/sbin)
