I've got the same problem. When booting with kernel 3.16 afterwards, the
system is unusable (black screen, no reaction to any keyboard shortcuts

I have no folder bin in my home folder and it still says Could not start
ksmserver. Check your installation.
It is clearly connected to optimus technology, especially NVIDIA drivers
with primus.

I can confirm @shuhoa findings, my 14.04 /13.10 laptop displays the
error, but I can boot and continue after the error. It just displays the
error message, but harmless.

Also ran across this bug. It came up on my VMware system under a Windows
10 host, seemingly due to an issue with VMWare kicking network in and
out very, very rapidly. Constant disk and CPU activity perked up as soon
as I connected the VM to the host bridge, and the network is
disconnected message
A bug returned for me after update to 14.10. Tried reinstallnig, purging
- didn't help. Also gravity north workaround no longer works.

an error during the installation. I also removed the blacklist entry for
i2c-hid, reboot and it started working, I didn't know which one worked,
